Please include the ability to specify a png to render around the content area (perhaps a command line option, with a default file called bezel.png located in the pico 8 home dir). This would be super helpful for custom RasPi setups and also nice in MacOS and Windows.

Thanks!

A demake of the classic flash game Boomshine by Danny Miller. Clear the screen of balls by causing exploding chain reactions. If the song gets too repetitive for you, there is an alternative song that fits into the background better in the game menu. Or turn off the music all together and just listen to the song that emerges naturally which will probably be better than anything I could write. Let me know if the difficulty or mechanics needs tweaking.

Turing Machine Board Game Bot

Description

A "real" Turing Machine to play the board game Turing Machine (https://www.turingmachine.info/) with. Game rules can be found on the official website.

Now added all criteria cards (some of them specify a certain colour/shape/number which is defined secretly by the game and I didn't know until solving the game, therefore I didn't include those). And now has 42 levels!

Enjoy!

@zep

when i add

/home/pi/pico-8/pico8_dyn -splore

to .bashrc or to my own bash script and run it, the file menu inside of splore is completely blank, and nothing shows up when i ls. however when run directly from the command line it functions as it should. it should be noted that i am running ras[b]ian lite 32 on my system, i am on a pi 3 a+ bought this year, and i have no games in the main folder, but in a subfolder. but the log file that is in the main folder does not show either.

this is using the latest vesion as of now, 0.2.6b.

Edit: i put in the games in the subfolder, and the sub folder is being used as a mounting point for a usb stick.

You know they are looking

You know they are looking is a text based adventure game somewhat inspired by
"Away from this world" by @stadam.
This is the second winnable version of this game.
This is very much not finished. This is a prototype.
If you have any feedback feel free to leave it in the comments.
I would like what this game plays like by someone who doesn't know what to do yet.

At the moment it isn't very good yet.

  • The menu's are a bit tedious to navigate.
  • The balance probably isn't right yet.
  • There are almost no graphics to set the scene.
  • There is no sound design.
  • I probably missed a ton of typo's.
  • Punctuation still needs work.
  • The writing defenetly still needs some love.
  • I want to get the general atmosphere to be as creepy as possible.
  • It is probably very hard to tell what you are supposed to be doing.
  • The intro and gameover screen are pretty much placeholders.

Changelog

  • getting captured is more consistent and predictable.
  • repairing the radar isn't as optional anymore.
  • solar panels can break now.
  • the game does a slightly better job explaining why you got captured (hopefully).
  • fixed some bugs, but likely added way more.
  • the time it takes to complete an action is now properly taken into account
  • repairing something takes 3 hours, nearly all else 6 hours.

Im am pretty much at the compressed size limit (98%) so doing any graphics or sound design is going to be a bit of a problem if I don't learn how to optimize for that soon.
Still plenty of tokens though.

Some tips:

  • Get solar panels working first.
  • "Support" is mandatory to repair, radar is optional.
  • Whether an action gets you caught depends on ships flying overhead, You can see these on the radar.
  • An action takes 6 hours by default, the time it takes a ship to reach you, is taken into consideration.
If a ship isn't overhead yet, but will be in the time it takes you to finish an action, it can spot you, if that action is one of the actions that get you caught.
This is the most buggy feature in the game though. And it doesn't reliably work yet.

WIP

Mini Minnows is based on the game Feeding Frenzy. In order to grow, you must eat fish your size or smaller. But watch out! Bigger fish will eat you!

Use arrow keys to move, when your XP bar (upper left) fills, you can spend your xp either on:

  • upgrading size (x)
  • upgrading speed (o)

Future ideas:

  • If fish is red, it auto kills you
  • If you get to be biggest fish, a fishhook comes down and chases you or just catches you

Color Conquest

Who will conquer the world!? Set up a procedurally generated map with countries that are battling for total domination!

Based on popular imperialism videos on YouTube, the idea to implement in PICO-8 was provided by my 7 year old son. We had a lot of fun working on it together!

Enjoy!

This is a work-in-progress. Original inspiration from Lazy Devs Academy. Graphics and game ideas by my kids.

Z to shoot.

✅ Different weapons to pick up
✅ Secret boss

Lots of polish to add after this! Music, better explosions, particle effects...

"Good day to you! I am a tapestry weaver, specializing in the embroidery of emblems of noble houses, which they often request on banners and such to hang on their castle walls. However, I'm not so good at the design side of things, and with many adventurers finding their fortunes and elevating themselves to noble rank, they come to me asking for new emblems for their families.

So I'd love to have many many banners on display in my shop walls for them to choose from. I have made 3 blank banners already for you to design house emblems on. Emblems can be anything. Some people prefer minimalism, while others are looking for familiar recognizable items such as weaponry, the sun, moon, flowers or animals.

What do you say? Can I count on your good graces to lend me a hand in this? Just imagine my shop walls filled with a variety of banners, vibrant colors and symbols everywhere you look. Thank you for helping make my dream come true."

"I'm an enchantress, focusing on spells of arcane geometry. I believe each of us possess a natural understanding of magic and it's only a matter of focusing on it and allowing the creative spirit of the natural world to guide your hand.

To test my theory of everyone's inner arcane knowledge, I'm collecting sigils, magical symbols, drawn from natural born creativity, not the white tower wizards with all their years of study, but raw potential ability that I sense in you.

Here's a blank page from my collection, draw whatever comes to mind in the square here, and let that guide your decisions of naming and describing what you think it does.

Enjoy the process and I so look forward to adding yours to my collection."

"I'm a cartographer, a map maker that is. And I've heard you're quite the adventurer. I'm collecting maps of dungeons from all over the kingdom to help other adventurer's survive. I have all the supplies, scrolls, pens, and ink. I just need you to draw what you remember from any dungeons you've explored.

All I need is an outline of rooms and corridors. Oh and it would be extra helpful if you could label the map either with words or symbols.

Please make it as detailed as your memory allows. I'll accept any map by the way, even if it's not a dungeon! Maybe you've explored a magical forest or a dragon's den.

I love maps so much, I can't wait to see what you draw for me. Thank you!"

"Hi, I am the local alchemist, and I've had a stall in the market, but I'm upgrading to a full shop in town and I need shelves to display all 16 of my potions! I've got my shop sign already and all the potions are ready to go, I just need you to help decorate the shop and display them nicely.

This is how the shop is prepared for you, and I've cast a levitation spell on the potions you see. You can move them around yourself, or just leave them be and build something like a bookshelf like this for me to place them on.

You can change the floor design, the wall color, and make the display as fancy as you'd like. Just make sure I still have my sign and all 16 potions on display.

Thank you! I can't believe I'm going to have my own potion shop!"

One of the games I used to play the most was populous.
While some of my friends could play it with beautiful graphics on their amiga or atari ST :

I was playing on a slow TO-16 PC compatible with CGA graphics and a monochrome green screen. You can't even find an online picture of a setting that bad for this game, the closest I could find online was color CGA that is actually almost as bad looking as the green version.

Despite the visuals, I was hooked and somehow managed to finish the game (level 400 something), using every possible trick available. (save scumming so the "random" swamps would always spawn under the enemy's knights feet, abusing the bad AI when possible (enemy flood that insta-kill every single enemy unit was the most memorable), using a bug that allowed to raise the terrain to level 1 on levels where it was disabled...).
Despite all that, after level 400, the building speed of the computer was just insane : he would add a block every frame (around 4 times per second on my crappy PC), making enemy progressing absolutely overwhelming.
