Looking for feedback on my first real PICO-8 game. I have some background music (inspired by Jaws) and a lovely shark sprite-set + some little fishies. The shark chomps with the Z-button. Otherwise no other functionality is implemented yet.
Thanks @kittenm4ster. I'm really happy with the way it looks. Not sure what the game mechanics will be though. That's what I'm having the most problem thinking of
Anims look great! Control has potential.
Now to add hit points, levels, and progressively more danger elements:
—eat x fish or y swimmers
—Stationary mines
—Slow floating horizontal-moving mines
—slow sinking depth charges
—Medium speed torpedos
—scuba dudes with spear guns
I will play this when it gets going!
Also could add tricks like bonus for eating two fish at once, trick to kill with flip of tail, etc.
Also powerups, invulnerability, etc. maybe which lets you get points for destroying mines. They could float down screen in crates with bubbles following, like they fell off a ship.
Levels could be depth like 10 fathoms, 20 fathoms... last could have weird glow in the dark boss. Use all previous tricks to beat.
hmm well if it were me I would probably make it be a friendly shark who never actually ate the fish swimming around, but instead explored caves and opened treasure chests by chomping (with maybe some light puzzle mechanics) and used the treasure to buy fish tacos at the shark taqueria, all to some relaxing but catchy music.
@a2 Hey, nice shark!! :) I'm more of kittenm4ster's school of thought, meaning that I'm more for something innovative than somethig more trivial. Not that trivial is bad, though. A good shark-chomping-fishes game also is very interesting. I really hope you finish this, some time! Will keep following :) Good luck!
