Hello, world !

I have been thinking about setting up a Slack team for PICO-8.
I noticed after searching with Google there's a team created already, but it seems to be dead, and no one in the IRC knew about it.

:: EDIT

New invite system implemented. Get your invite here: JOIN !

There's also the good old invite system JTE is running on her server: (alt) JOIN !
Eternal love (<3) to JTE for running the invite automation system, and asterick for helping to set it up.

I'm the Cute Catgirl Goddess who runs the automated invite form.

For anyone seeing this thread for the first time and happens to read as far as the second post, here's some interesting slack channels you might consider joining:
#brainstorm - @gameideamachine Twitter bot feed and other random interesting game project ideas.
#collab - Where we're working on PicoWare Inc. and other collaborative projects!
#wip - Show off your random screenshots of incomplete games you're building here.

I'm exited to see a lot of cool collaborations come out of this :D

Finally! I tried setting this up like a month ago but...uh, logistics problems. I don't own any servers and can't afford any.
I'll sign up ASAP.

This is a brilliant idea!

Discord might be better for a more public community thing but Slack is better for work and group security.
None the less I jumped in too. :3

Please excuse the downtime, catgirl.goddess.moe is currently experiencing issues.

Edit: Service has now resumed, thank you for worshiping the Cute Catgirl Goddess.

there's also https://picocity.slack.com

dunno which one is more active...

Personally I think Slacks are a terribly useless idea for Pico-8 and we should all just use IRC and imgur. :V The community is far too small to fragment into multiple channels on multiple slacks and expect it to be/stay active to a reasonable degree, especially when topics like this one just get lost in the backlog.

The freenode IRC is linked from the "Community" bar now, which makes it findable for newcomers. I'm fine with that to the extent that IRC isn't a technical hurdle for participation.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with Slack as long as we pick one and get it linked from "Community." It has disadvantages like requiring the auto-approval thing, but it has advantages like having a client that's easy to find and use (web, desktop, mobile) and nice media sharing features.

In general, we need a better way of making community-managed resources easier to find. It'd be nice to revive and brush up the pico-8 wikia, but it needs some attention from the person who created it. (I would hope wikia has ways to grant multiple people admin powers, but would assume the original admin needs to be involved.) If we can clean that up then we can get it linked from "Community" and go from there.

Related typical solutions: add wiki-like features to the BBS, "sticky" posts, BBS moderators, etc., at least so we can maintain a findable community FAQ with links to other resources. Those are a much higher burden on zep, of course. :)

The IRC link just needs (Web client) added after it, linked to mibbit.

KiwiIRC or freenode's webchat would be better preferred. Actually just anything not mibbit. Not a good idea to lead people to use mibbit since sure, it might not be banned in pico-8's channel but it's outright banned in several other places to various degrees.

Fragmenting the community more is always a bad idea. If you want to use Slack, you think you could advertise the existing one instead?? Get everyone in one place...

Is pico-8.slack.com still active? I tried to get an invite on the slofile site, but I keep getting an error.
