Neat. So far so good...you thinking this will be a stat survival game? Like you run out of water, food, etc.?

Really like the little walking stick guy sprite.

I'm not sure. On the one hand, I wanted this game to be pretty simple. A survival mechanic suddenly adds a lot of complexity. What would you need to do to actually survive?

On the other, apart from collecting items, this 'game' is pretty dull as it is now. Not sure how best to fix that yet.

This is awesome!

You could make it as though you're on skis on a steep mountain, and always slide downwards until you hit a solid object (a tree, or the bottom, or a curve in the river, etc) to make it more interesting? So the player has less control over their movement, or at least has to pay more attention? Just a thought since you said you were struggling with it! :)

Abominable snowman!

ps. this is very cute.

Good points...it will be more complex but it doesn't have to be overly complex. Even if it's "simple" survival like you gotta find berries for energy...or you can run but only for so long before you have to stop.

I like @nic's idea of skis if for no other reason in that it gets you around faster. Or maybe you can only go into a certain area with snowshoes or something. I did really like the little river and crossing.

I also maybe feel like more landmark type things would be good to help with mapping. Just a snowman here or big rock there or something.

Although I did get pretty excited when I found my bucket of water so that kept me going but only for a few more screens. I didn't spend any time going up for very far...kind of forgot the point was to climb up rather than just find the items.

I got my 4 items and got to the top but nothing happened?

@morningtoast good points. The terrain generation needs to be a bit more sophisticated to help give a better sense of location, i think.

The difficulty with a survival mechanic is balancing it to be just enough of a problem, but not too much.

@matt Congratulations. There is no cutscene for getting to the top at the moment, but I intend to put one in if you reach it with all four items. It is a WIP :)
