Likely this question has been asked, but I'll ask it again anyways.

With PICO, you can create games. To run either in Lexaloffle's BBS or with HTM/.JS elsewhere.

Is there a way or is it planned that games might be compiled to true FLASH ? *.SWF.

I just uploaded my notepad cart to Kongregate to check it and, sure enough, it still has staggering issues. I will say ALL PICO programs I have seen since I arrived, all stagger in my Firefox browser.

Is there a way to fix this or is it an inherent trait of Java/LUA ?

What Flash programs I have written in the past - all run top-speed today and have never shown any Online hesitation.

I've never experienced this, and I've use Firefox and Chrome.

How bad is the staggering? Is it so obvious that anyone would notice?

I don't know about Flash, man. It's on the way out (because it was mainly proprietary maybe?) and HTML5 is on the way in. I looked at making things in Flash years ago and the free tools were not great and I didn't want to pirate anything. Is it still like that?

And Java? Don't confuse that with JavaScript. Two totally different languages. I don't think Java enters the picture for pico 8.

You can export a PICO 8 app as Javascript, Rytrasmi. (HTML 5 & JS).

I've made a few apps in Flash but that was MANY years ago. Checking where I posted them, however, they still run full speed - very nice.

The staggering of playing any carts, even in the BBS, is very noticeable here. Not so bad in Google Chrome.

Usually I just SPLORE to find new carts and try them there. Hitting [ESC] during SPLORE lets me look at the source of the last loaded cart.

If there is a way to export as FLASH, I think that might solve my problem here.

... no-one suggested I update my Java to current. I'm going to do that now and see if it helps any.

Yeah I know you can export to html and JavaScript.

Wondering where Java comes in, given that it's an entirely different thing to JavaScript, despite the similar names. Actually I'm not wondering. I don't think updating Java is your answer.

Updating Firefox on the other hand...have you tried that?

Well now you simply KNOW I didn't know the difference between JAVA and JAVASCRIPT, right ? :)

Firefox is up to date.
Updated Silverlight (shouldn't make a difference).
Update Java (for browser - let's see if that helps).

... ???

Ah ! What a difference ! Updating Java (not Javascript) apparently fixed that little problem of staggering - at a cost of audio. Audio is WAY behind, not synchronous at all.

Only EXE runs video and audio with correct timing it seems.

Besides this, I like Flash. It's self-contained, doesn't require a HTML to back it, and you can easily upload your .SWF to many Online game sites.

I didn't know. Either way your secret's safe with me.

Java is a ginormous browser extension provided by a third party (Oracle) while JavaScript is supported natively in the browser by whoever wrote the browser. I'm not sure if that statement is100% correct, but I think you could completely uninstall Java and pico 8's html+JavaScript cartridges would still work.

I'm still puzzled by your issue. If anything comes to mind I'll post here.

Thanks ... especially if there is a Javacript to Flash converter. I think that just might convert PICO.

Flash is generally considered a dying technology these days, so I wouldn't count on seeing an SWF exporter.

A mixture of being a proprietary product and constantly being a source of security flaws has made people move more to HTML5 for the same things.

But ... if HTML5 has hesitation and Flash never has AND the fact that there are MANY games posted in Online gaming sites that are flash ...
Did I miss anything ?

Let's try and decipher this then.

This is one of the more popular games I like to play Online.

http://www.kongregate.com/games/SoulGame/swords-and-souls.

What was it written in ? Flash, Javascript, or ... ?
