A demo by Matt Current, first shown at Revision 2019. Placed third in the Wild competition.
Again, might not run properly in browsers everywhere, but naturally the cart runs just fine in PICO-8 itself.
Dang, once again another really impressive and surprisingly inventive and varied demo! The various "glitchy" rendering styles and effects used throughout are particularly cool.
Delightful. I really love the unraveling effect.
I came across this by chance while watching the Wild compo feed -- that was a nice surprise!
Truck (the guy in the video) is awesome :)
Also, it was cool to see a bunch of other PICO-8 stuff at Revision - the music disk in the Wild compo was great, and there was also a clever Conway's Game of Life shoot-em-up in the Game compo. Always nice to see demoscene stuff on the PICO-8!
Anyway, here's the unminified version I promised. Like I said, it's still a bit messy, still has some token optimization tricks that make some parts of it hard to read, and I generally should comment things more, but hopefully this will be useful or interesting to someone :) http://www.jorikemppi.net/benin_final_unminified.p8
Hey Jobe,
it was great to talk to you at Revison.
How did you minify your code? Did you do it manually or did you write yourself some python script like you did for converting .obj files?
If there is a minifying script, is there any chance you might release it?
Hi xxx, great to talk to you as well, overall an amazing party once again :)
I used Picotool by Dan Sanderson, which has, among other useful tools, a PICO-8 specific Lua minifier.
Now that I think of it, it would have been good form for me to have mentioned that in the info file and the info slide. Sorry that slipped my mind.
That huge amount of applause from the audience was well-deserved! Another fantastic Pico-8 demo to add to my favorites.
This is amazing but what really impressed me, right from the get-go, is the toms. Definitely gonna study this. Great cart.
Wow. Nice. Both visually and musically.
I second Lafolie's toms comment.
Favorite PICO-8 demo so far. As I've started playing with it now I'm gonna have to open this one up and take a look at the soundtrack.
