A Ludum Dare 45 entry about trying to create a Ludum Dare 45 entry. Explore town, examine the scenery, and talk to those around you as you search for... inspiration.

CHANGELOG:

  • 2019/10/12: Further collision detection fixes.
  • 2019/10/10: Fixed the bar exit so it no longer glitches you into a wall.
  • 2019/10/09: I fixed an error that caused the game to sometimes not progress past the logo screen, and added collision detection to the traffic cones so you can no longer glitch out of bounds.

cute :)

I enjoyed playing through this. It's got a lot of character. I've given it a bulletin board star. =)

This is me thinking outside the box on my search for inspiration:

:-p

If you're wondering, I left the map via the right of the roadblock outside, then walked back up round the edge.

It is of course excused, as if it needed to be - going off the map is a tradition in games.

@remcode Thanks for the feedback! A couple of other people had reported collision issues in that area, so I'm uploading a new build that should fix them.

There's still a glitch with the roadblock to the north-east of the bar.

I was able to get completely stuck on it. In the corner between the two barricades.

@apLundell Yeah, there's a separate glitch where it doesn't detect collisions properly and you can get stuck slightly inside walls. I think I know how to fix it now and will try and get (yet another) patch out.

Yeah, I got stuck a few times inside James's house (somehow got free by looking at my list a few times) and in my house at the end I hit an invisible wall walking towards the computer. I enjoyed James, being a Poke-fan myself. I'm assuming he's not named that by accident.. :p

I'm a bit of a noob here, got Pico8 not too long ago for teaching myself with, so I'm not familiar with 'Ludum Dare'. I'll have to look it up now though, thanks. :)

@Downwinds "James"? There's nobody in the game called James...

Thanks for the feedback though, I'm gonna have to look into the collision detection once again.

@F1Krazy, one thing you might do if you are not already is check diagonals, not just up, down, left, and right. I managed to get myself stuck in your game too, near a construction barrier.

This was such a delight to play! Thanks for making this :D

@F1Krazy huh, you're right. Wow I must have been tired when I played this or something! Sorry, haha. Anyway I was referring to the guy who spoke about Pokemon and had a bottlecap collection (who seems to be called Scott now). He reminded me of the character James from Team Rocket in the Pokemon cartoon.

@thijsengel Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@dw817 I'll have to do that, then. Diagonal collision is just two orthogonal collisions done one after the other so I don't see why it would work any differently tbh.

@Downwinds Nah, he wasn't intended to be a reference to James from Pokémon, although he does mention Pokémon a couple of times.

Really nice little game. Fun dialogue and a nice sentiment.

Cool!
Really fun and cute!
