Save the planet from the flying sharks!
Choose your plane and fight for life with four different types of sharks in this endless shooter. Good luck!
Inspired by Arrigo Barnabé's "Flying Sharks" ("Tubarões Voadores", in the original portuguese).
This is my third game and probably the most fun to make. I programmed most of it a year ago and left it behind, and now I've been doing some tweaks here and there for the past two weeks. I've learned so so much while programming this, and I hope I make good use of that for making some more games.
If you find any bugs, let me know in the comments!
Thanks for playing!
Here's the music, solo, with some new art!
CHANGES:
V1.1:
- Highscores! Do your best to beat them!
- Little entering animation for the planes at the start
- Score never goes below zero
- Tiny bugfixes
Older versions:
FlyingSmog?
This is AnonymousFog (there was an unnoticed typo when I made my account. There should be a capital 'A' at the beginning. I can't change it.). I'm very ANONY-MIST.
This reminds me of the Event Horizon minigames from the Thrillville games. I kind of expected the ability to turn up and down, but it's alright.
Hey, adjectival fogtype friend! thanks for playing! I'm not sure I understand, turning what up and down? @nonymousFog
also what if the difference between the robo-sharks and the normal sharks? more health or something?
and damn, those tiny sharks are fast. but y no sharks that shoot you?
"There were lasers... Sharks... and Laser Sharks..."
-Metalbeard, The Lego Movie
@nonymousFog Yeah, that would be pretty cool, I didn't really think about that. Will try to implement it in a next version. And yeah, the robo sharks have more health and do more damage, and the tiny sharks are really fast :) didn't think about the laser sharks either, but would be an awesome thing to have. guess it just didn't cross my mind. Really appreciate the feedback!
If you add the up and down thing, there should be a shark that chases you until it passes you or dies.
EDIT: wait, you came up with this because of an album?
I didn't realize that you made that Moon Lander game too.
And the Ghostbusters theme is amazing.
@nonymousFog Yeah, it's all based on an album :) Arrigo Barnabé is one of my favorite musicians and when I started to make a shooter I couldn't see anything other than flying sharks as my opponents. And I'm glad you like the GB theme! I'm really proud of it haha
@FlyingSmog also what is your profile pic? it looks like a TV man got a job in the United States military.
@nonymousFog hahaha it's actually a military hammerhead shark (purely coincidence).
@FlyingSmog
ERROR DETECTED!
I played as Flash and immediately dies 4 times to see whether or not you REALLY fixed the thing where the score goes under zero. Yes, you fixed it.
so then I pressed up, and this happened:
a2 no matter how many times u compliment shark, shark wants 2 eat u.
Fun Fact: Sharks attacks on humans are actually rare, and you're more likely to be attacked by an alligator or crocodile (or the other similar ones that aren't either of those. ya know like the one with the long, thin snout that Krookodile is based on) Sharks don't like human flesh, but will eat it if they are hungry and it looks like something else. The reason surfers are attacked so often compared to swimmers is because they look like turtles to them.
Speaking of turtles... Never let a plastic object - ESPECIALLY BAGS - blow away in the wind. Sea turtles will very likely mistake them for jellyfish (which like to float near the surface), and all turtles, big or small, have not very good eyesight.
I can totally see this game being a big hit years ago in the arcade. It's gotta be the trippy music and presentation.
Students at high school would be saying:
"Did you play Flying Sharks ?"
"Have you seen Flying Sharks ?"
"Flying Sharks is the bomb !"
"I spent my whole allowance on Flying Sharks last weekend. My girlfriend's really mad at me now."
In fact, Sharknado stole their idea from you when you presented this in the arcade back in 1980 !
So, yeah, that's the vibe I'm getting. And it's a good one. Definite star for you. :)
Wow, @dw817, thank you! That means a lot :) Glad you enjoyed!
Great game! Really cool concept. I was having difficulty passing the hammerhead sharks though. Maybe it's the left/right speed? The only time I could kill one was when it came from under and I hit it with a missle. I was playing as the barron and person with high damage. The golden sharks have a lot of health too.
Hi @KnightOfDoom22, thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed :) I think the best technique for killing the hammerheads is to go a little further right on the screen, let them come down, move left again and shoot them with the missiles. And yeah, the golden sharks have a buttload of health. Thing is, since when you kill them they give you another buttload of points, it's really worth it to just focus all your time and ammo on them for a while. At least that's how I see it.
