This is a playable game concept from my step-daughter Corinne.
Guide the octopus through the caverns, avoiding the edges, collecting fish, and eliminating creatures with your laser.
Each level gets a little faster. Compete for the highest score.
Beta: The creature cavern avoidance needs more finesse, and I'd be open to any suggestions about that or any other improvements.
The image on the intro screen was the original one planned as a game sprite, but it was too large to use in a Pico-8 game, and this version of the game was made to try out the basic concepts, so the graphics are more basic too. As I was going for an Atari 2600 like feel I'll take your comment as a compliment ;-)

1) put a palt(1,true) in _init()
2) call it "Laser Squid"

The octopus does looks more squid-like! It even originally had more squid-ish movement, but it was difficult to control that way.
