Tiny Tracks. Fast Laps

Driftmania is an arcade time trial racing game. Your goal is to get the fastest possible time on each of the 15 challenging tracks

Controls

  • Up Arrow or Z: Accelerate
  • Down Arrow: Brake + Reverse
  • Left Arrow: Turn left
  • Right Arrow: Turn right
  • X: D-Brake
  • R: Restart level
  • P: Pause game + Options menu

Tips

  • You turn faster when holding the D-Brake
  • Take a good look at the minimap before starting a track. You need to anticipate the turns to get the best times
  • Grass does not slow you down. It reduces traction, which you can use to your advantage for drifting!
  • Driving over yellow tiles will activate boost. Boost works with whatever direction you're facing - it doesn't matter where the arrow on the ground is pointing
  • Garage customizations do not change car handling. Make your car look however you want it to!
  • An optional ghost can be enabled in the pause menu. Replays are lost when exiting a track

Changelog
1.0.1

  • Reduced medal difficulty across most tracks
  • Reduced medal requirements for unlocking new tracks
  • Ghost now defaults to ON

1.1.0

  • Revised D4: optional first jump pad, bigger second jump pad
  • Arrow keys can now be used to change track selection and garage customization
  • Additional medal tuning

  • @TheRoboZ for pd_rotate(). Very useful to get rotations in so few tokens!
  • @johanp for VFX inspiration. The sprite stacking used here started by modifying your demo cart on the subject!

Amazing, great use of sprite stacking for pseudo 3D and well polished.
It's a good challenge to get the higher level medals. So far I've just done the A levels and got silver medals on them.
I love all the level mechanics which also all also super polished.
I can see myself playing this for quite a while into the future.

This is excellent! Great feel, graphics, effects and sfx/music! I love my little customized car.

This makes me wish for an arcade cabinet with a steering wheel.

Great job!

Wow! Very well done! Love It.

Turning and drifting feels great. I appreciate how driving on grass only affects traction, and in some levels it adds to the joy of cutting corners. Track variety is fun, and there are a lot of tracks!

The gold medal times are tight! One has to execute really well to earn them, but with tracks around 40 seconds each, the challenge isn't too strenuous for those with the drive for perfection. The ghost feature has been useful to see where the time gains are available and whether my current pace is acceptable. I've only gotten a handful of gold medals so far, and there is a lot of gameplay here for those looking to optimize.

My only incredibly minor feedback is the "select track" menu is a little clunky to navigate in my opinion. I think pressing the up/down buttons to change tracks, rather than pressing the action buttons on the track's name, might be more intuitive. I don't think you need to fix this menu by any means, but I wanted to mention it since it tripped me up a few times.

Very cool - congrats on the release! Happy to hear my little example was helpful!

super fun!

1

congrats with the release!
plays very well 👌

same remarks on the menu/track selection - not easy to navigate

So much fun, incredibly polished and comfortable to handle. Nice work!

congrats! and glad that pd_rotate will be my legacy 🤭

Thanks everyone for the great feedback! I'm glad so many people are enjoying it :D

V 1.1.0 addresses the two most common complaints: slightly better menu navigation and a more fair level D4. I've also published a video showing how to get a gold medal on every track. Enjoy!

Finally got all the gold medals!

... and then

What?? There's more?

It's a really good game. Drifting around turns is very satisfying. Game also looks nice, have good music and sound effects.

What a great game. It absolutely nails that sweet spot of "just one more go" to beat my previous best and gain the next medal.

The car handles well and is really satisfying to control. Any mistakes feel like my own fault rather than the game being unfair. I won't say how many medals I have managed as it's not very many...

1

Wow this is delightful! I just spent half an hour trying to beat my PB! Such an addictive game I love it, kudos!

For some reason I could only drift when turning left (when pressing left). Even so I could complete all levels, but I guess I didn't play "drift" mania... Otherwise, really great game!

@Gaspico that's probably a ghosting issue with your keyboard. You could try another one or use V or M instead of X

I stumbled across this a couple of days ago, and I wasn't digging it at the time. I gave it another shot, and there's a lot more going on here than I initially thought. This is a really cool, complete game that is ideal for speed running and competition. I'm glad to see so many scores on speedrun.com.

I was really impressed when I realized you had implemented ghosts. That's such a cool feature for this game. Great work.

nice car ;-)

Hey, just dropping by to say that I play lots of racing games, and the handling in this one is amazing. There are full blown 3D AAA racing games that control worse than this one. It's super goood to drift and take a good outside-inside-outside line that saves you time, it's the same amazing feel that you get from nailing a qualifying lap on a sim like iRacing.

Very well done, congratulations!
