By now, you most likely have heard kids talking about something called "M-BIRSIO" and sometimes just shout "MM... BIRSIO! MM... BIRSIO!" while drooling. Well, now you can find out what it is by inserting this new exciting cart from Tic Tac Toad in your PICO-8.

MICRO MURDER ( but it's robots so it's OK ) is a game of ballistic extermination for 1 or 2 tactical modules, organic or otherwise. Assert your domination over four pictoresque and extremely resource-rich celestial bodies using a flexible arsenal designed to fit any situation.

FEATURES

* streamlined "artillery duel" gameplay similar to Worms (or so they
say, Tic Tac Toad has never heard about any kind of worms except the one
in Worm Nom Nom, also available now from Tic Tac Toad)
* a game for 1-2 players
* a sometimes quite cunning AI
* an endless amount of randomly generated levels on four different planets
* tweakable gameplay parameters

INSTRUCTIONS

MICRO MURDER: But It's Robots So It's OK is an artillery duel game. Your mission is to destroy all enemy robots.

Use the controller to move around. (Up) and (down) changes the aim. (x) to jumps and (o) opens up the popup menu. Hold (o) and push the joypad into any of the four cardinal directions to select options. E.g. hold (o) and (down) to fire.

Try to use the best suitable weapon for different situations. Try to bounce enemy robots into the surrounding water/lava/lemonade in case you can't simply explode them into spare parts. Use the Digger to dig tunnels for you to hide into or shoot through.

If you still are stumped, play a few games against the AI to see useful tactics.

Fan #1 here! waiting for some articles on your blog about techniques used in this game, loved the ones on spaceman8 :]

I read about prototracker http://kometbomb.net/prototracker/ ; do you think an android port is doable? sorry for being offtopic :>

I suppose I should write something!

P.S.

(There's also a topic at chipmusic.org)

just saw it on my rss feeds :) thanks so much for this!

This is awesome! Brings back memories of afternoons spent playing worms on a win98 pc.

And just the other day I was wondering if something like Scorched earth would work on the Pico-8. I am amazed at this, And find it fun as $%^&.

All the props.

I missed this when it came out.

It's a minor thing, but I really like the way the simulated-vector title shows the electrons piling up when the beam has to change direction. Very oldschool-accurate. :)

Thanks for the comments! This really seems like a crowd pleaser.

@Felice: Yeah, it's like the less pixels iLKke has to work with the more detail there is.

This is incredible. Evrything about it is great, especially the clever radial menu. Brilliant! Thank you!

@kometbomb: Oh, that was iLKke's doing? I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the attention to detail then. :)

(I just realized something OT: isn't it crazy that, in our world, the more talented someone is, the less noteworthy it is when they do something cool? Humans be weird, yo.)

This would be a fun game to play on your phone when you have some time to kill (maybe combine it with the mobile controller from https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=29937)

Are the machines supposed to plot forever?

Hi, I just fixed the bug that stopped the AI from thinking.

(Thank you Saffith for the help.)

Good Bananas !

Reminds me of "Gorillas" for QBasic many years ago.

Fantastic game, played it with my nephew last night on my raspberry pi. Thanks for making this!

I love the game. I played it with my little bro and he won 82% of the time and I won like 18% of the time.

i liked the amount of levels you were able to choose from and becuase of that little feature i never got bored of playing.

Both of the games I've started so far have ended with the machines plotting forever. :-/

hello, I have a problem in the game, I don't know about you, but sometimes when the machines are plotting I get a lag until the cpu responds, ruining my experience

Man, this is such a great game. I love the art.

reminds me of WORMS w.m.d

The cpu is being petty, it knows it's going to lose so it spends its whole turn planning and lagging the game. Good game otherwise though.

This is CPU is pretty suicidal. It's not just for me right? Where like the last one will kill itself? On my last game it just shot a cluster in the ground directly below it.

I suck at this game so much.

Sometimes the AI lags the game and thinks for a LOT of time

how combat sectors work:
there are 10 digits, each digit can be any letter in the alphabet or a period.
so there are 27^10 = 205,891,132,095,649 combat sectors available.
i guess each combat sector is a seed that the level generation relies on.

MUTUAL DESTRUCTION

WAR IS HELL

apparently that's an edge case where both teams run out of units at the same time

Great game
can you make it allow embeded playback

what is embedded playback?

It basically allows the game to be played anywhere, not just lexaloffle, which helps great games like this to reach more people
