Since we've already got classic Minesweeper by @TeamPuzel (and because someone in the thread very specifically suggested it) I felt like starting on Solitaire to add to the classic Windows games collection!

It's mostly just graphics for now and a little bit of UI work to get it in a window. I'm still working on the Queen and King card graphics, but wanted to get this out there for perhaps some feedback on the trajectory I'm on.

No promises about when it'll be done--I'm mostly into doing graphics but am looking forward to tackling the challenge of getting it functional too.

I hope I've managed to strike the right balance between authenticity and low-res adaptation in a softer, more "Picotron" colour palette!

Heyo, SLATE!
Very cool, I'll need to make a games folder for all of these soon.

so cool!!

It looks really good! I'll look forward to adding it to my desktop games folder with the aforementioned minesweeper :)

When I was a much younger, I would play Solitaire a lot, because it was one of the few games available on a Windows 9x computer with no Internet connection. I always got a kick out the multiple card backs, and the classic "uncleared draw buffer" card cascade upon victory. I would personally suggest those as important features to include :)

@ahrotahn This reminded me of spending computer classes in primary school playing solitaire, minesweeper and staring at that 3d maze screensaver (I wasn't very good at the first two)

Speaking of which, we need a port of that screensaver to Picotron :D

I kinda dig the work you put in the colors and the sprites, they really shine anew with that palette! Can't wait to give it a try.

I'm so glad you guys like the direction I'm going in! It's highly encouraging.

@ahrotahn The card backs and animation are indeed in the plans! They really are essential to the classic Solitaire experience, aren't they. The horror castle and robot card backs always really stuck out to me. I'd forgotten all about them until I went looking for screenshots of the old solitaire, but as soon as I saw them again it all came back to me! My grandpa is really into the Windows solitaire and he would often play it with me as a child and show me "tricks". I recently reinstalled it on his new Windows 10 PC and he was so happy to be able to play it again <3

@Decidetto my grandpa would play solitaire on the computer with me too, but I was the one who taught him how to play! he was given our family's old windows 3.1 system when we upgraded to a "beefy" compaq running windows 95, and he would shuffle into the den every day and play a game or two once he got the rules down. he would grab a card and go "ok .. a black 3 .. goes on a red 4 ... any red 4 ... nope. next..."
