I installed pico-8 a couple days ago, and i haven't been able to get the sound working. Ive tried restarting it, restarting my laptop, deleting the config file, using/not using headphones. there's no sound visible on the volume mixer. any ideas?
Hi @quarts. Chances are you have disabled the sound somehow.
First off confirm you have sound everywhere in Windows else EXCEPT Pico-8. If you don't have sound in anything, just turn your sound back on.
Understanding it is Pico-8, however, let's try a few ways to get it back. Open up Pico-8.
Then RIGHT click on the speaker in the bottom-right-hand corner of the screen and select, "Open Volume Mixer."
From there locate the Pico-8 task using the horizontal scroll bar if necessary. Make sure you only have one running. Be certain it is not muted. Check the speaker at the bottom and it should not have a crossout in it.
The next step is to go to Pico-8 and press CTRL+M. Make sure the pop-up says, "Sound On."
If that's not the problem, from here run any Pico-8 cart. Bring up the PAUSE menu with "P." Select "options" then Volume and make sure it is turned up.
If you are having a problem with online Pico-8, in there also press "P" and "options" to make sure it is turned up.
You can also right-click on the tab in Firefox and make sure the tab is not muted. If it is muted you will see an option, about 3-down from the top to "Unmute Tab."
If you are not having sound in Firefox itself, once again check the volume tab task to make sure it is not low or muted.
Hope This Helps !
Just a thought, but maybe tack " [MUTED]"
onto the end of the window title when PICO-8 is (^M)uted.
Or you could prefix/suffix one or more of the unicode speaker emojis or their plain versions:
- 🔊🔉🔈🔇
- 🔊︎🔉︎🔈︎🔇︎
Just make it a little bit easier on the newbies.
Good advice, @Felice ! MUTED is definitely non-standard and seeing it in the window title as text or icon would be helpful.
