OLDER NOTES
As Christmas is rapidly approaching I thought I would take one of my older holiday programs and rewrite it from scratch and greatly improve upon the original code using near 8-bit compression instead of earlier 6-bit.
It takes a text file and converts it to 128x128 dithered pixel image, the largest being 610-string text characters in size.
It also includes the compressor just in case you want to use it yourself for your own creations.
In running the program use the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to navigate. That's it !
Examine the source-code to see how it is done.
If you are interested in my first iteration of this, you can find it HERE:

I've had a few people asking me in private Email as I have listed it, when am I going to finish the game I'm writing in Pico-8 ? The big project.
That's the problem. I see games as finite. They are here. Enjoyable. And once won, then what ?
It is much more interesting for me to write tools to assist others in their game development. Nonetheless I am back - and am working on the game. I hope to have it completely finished by the end of the year - which is rapidly upcoming. I will let you know.
So have a very merry and a cool yule ! π

Are you suggesting adding a church or carolers to the images, @DRStudio2010 ?
The last few images in here are hollow. Not quite as good as the first. I'm working on another cart but will get back to this and try to improve the images.
Glad you like it. :)

Sure thing, @bikibird. Can be learned from too. If you import your own B&W 64x64 image in the sprite set, you can compress new pictures for yourself. Could be useful to tell the beginning, middle, and end of a story in a game.

You're very welcome, @DRStudio2010. :)
And yeah, sounds like a plan. Alright, I have time Thursday (12-30-21). I'll focus just on this cart and get better images and some "silent night" type pictures additionally.
These images take so little space I suspect I can have up to 50 of 'em before it starts to balk.

Ok there are 40 of 'em now. If I don't count Hanukkah I may be hard pressed to try and find another 10-Christmas pics to close this up. Will have to give it some thought.
