A few of the things I liked about this:
The damage bars being directly above the enemy ships.
The fact that you can occasionally do specific damage to the ships, to partially disable them, and not just weaken the damage bar. It is really nice to see this.
The "level select mechanism" essentially being you flying through space, so by avoiding (or not) the battle/store icons, you can choose whether you go into a fight or to a store to purchase upgrades, such as the (fairly essential) gun cooldown upgrade.

@remcode thanks very much for you observations and comments, it's very exciting seeing some good positive feedback. and i agree, the base cooldown is kinda bad. there is still some balancing issues that will look into it, the base cooldown is one of them. thanks again for the input!
