Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question because I'm not really a web developer but I've hosted my game on my own site and it doesn't behave the same as the same game hosted here. Desktop is fine but on mobile, the on-screen touch controls are missing and I have to pinch to zoom to get the game to fill the window while on here it fits neatly even without using full-screen mode.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I'd like my Pico8 games pages to be mobile-aware.
I don't know if this is something I need to change with the export or what. I'm game to learn "proper" web development....I know some basic HTML and that's it but I'm up for getting my hands dirty if someone can point me in the right direction.
Also as an aside, I couldn't figure out how to post here without switching mobile Chrome to the desktop version. You can't seem to post otherwise.
the export html is lagging behind the bbs version.
that should be fixed in the upcoming pico8 version I guess (sometime in april or so I heard).
Okay, glad I don't have to mess with Web dev when I'd rather be coding Lua :D That's something of a relief that it's a known thing that's not my fault.
I spoke to the author (Zep?) on Twitter and he said the next version is out at the end of April and it looks like it includes native binary exports for Linux, Mac and Windows. Hopefully improved Web export makes that release too.
I really chose Pico8 for the fact it worked on pretty much any device via the Web export so it's kinda a big deal for me.
Slightly off-topic, but since we can export carts as html and js, are we able to turn them into free/paid mobile apps? If so, how do permissions/privileges between the author of the cart and Pico-8 work??
@skelton
from the faq:
Is it possible to sell my PICO-8 cartridges?
There isn't an official PICO-8 marketplace, but you are free to do what you like with cartridge you have exported, including selling them in other markplaces like itch.io or uploading them to advertising-driven sites like Newgrounds and Kongregate. Just make sure you have permission from any other contributing authors first!
though zep would be the one to ask
0.1.11 is running late because of an overdue Voxatron update (more on this soon), but will include touch controls and joystick support in the default exported html. The plan is to eventually allow custom html5 templates that can be easily swapped in, for example to make a 2-button layout or to add faceplate graphics.
Thanks Zep!
Will 0.1.11 also still have native binary exports?
