I haven't bought pico-8 yet, and i was considering doing so, but i wanted to find out from the people who actually own it, is it worth it? how active is the community? Is Voxatron dead or also worth it? Answers would be appreciated

Voxatron is pretty dead but still there for the curious. PICO-8 is close to v1.0 in terms of features and stability, and has a very active community with frequent releases. Picotron is still a baby with a lot of development yet to happen but already has a thriving community and lot of releases.

Picotron is newer with a higher resolution, more pixels, more buttons and more power, but a slightly different modality when it comes to coding and presentation. It's a "fantasy workstation" with a graphical desktop as opposed to PICO-8, a "fantasy console" with command-line environment +tooling.

concerning picotron, does it also use lua? or a different language?

it is lua, but a different version than pico-8 uses, so there are minor differences in the language + big differences in the functions available

so you have to learn the language once and learn two environments that use it!
