What if Vampire Survivors was a Pac-Man style arcade game?
Well, I guess this is what you'd get: A single-screen bullet heaven experience.
You start off slow, by killing a few enemies, and picking up XP and Coins.

Every time you level up you get to pick a free upgrade.

Defeat the boss at the end of all 3 stages.

Buy permanent upgrades with the coins you gathered.

And see how long you can survive, when things start getting hectic.

But most importantly, have fun.
Note: Stage 3 enemies only have a 50% chance to drop xp and coins, but to balance it out they're worth twice as much. This was implemented in order to battle some performance issues due to clutter. The drops also start to despawn when not picked up, so keep that in mind. Thanks.

Wow! This was intense!
Things get out of hand quickly. And that was a delight. This game perfectly encapsulates what I love about pico-8 games done well. Excellent core mechanics that scale beautifully to the platform.
The base firing speed must have been meticulously chosen because it is hell to survive with early but as you upgrade it scales nicely.
I dunno how you did it with such a simple setup, but I feel like everything done here was done really cleanly and with nice attention to detail.
The animations of the red mobs are just right. The simple map is just enough to give me a sensation of place on the game board and the count down timer is just slow enough that I feel like I’m trying to survive.
Well done. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

What a fun game! At first it reminded me of Berzerk, then it became it's own beast.

Thank you so much for the kind words, and I'm glad you two enjoyed the game. As far as the initial attack speed goes though, I just picked a slow speed to begin with, and then built the spawnrates and the XP gain around that, so that the player never feels overwhelmed, but can get upgrades at a decent rate, and can keep up with the increasing enemy spawns.
