Just the old Mastermind board game redone in PICO-8.
I got the music from Robby Duguay (Thanks Robby!): https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2619

Feel free to let me know about bugs and such.

Edit: New version with bug fix and changes as per comments.

A important information would be, that the 4 colors are not unique, which makes the game much more difficult that it needs.

Not bad at all. The lose window obscures a number of the payers guesses which is slightly annoying when I was sure I had it right at about guess 5 , but can no longer see to check :)

Thanks GPI and phil. I'll make some tweaks.

It's a good game, @pootie. Gold star. @phil is right, the YOU WIN page overwrites the # of moves you were taking. Suggest you either show in that frame the # of moves or move that frame out of the line of sight.

I'm also having trouble remembering that WHITE means the peg is the correct color but the wrong place and the BLACK means the peg is the correct color and in the right place.

Here is a variation where RED means the peg is the correct color but the wrong place and the GREEN means the peg is the correct color and in the right place.

Also, I am confused by this. Playing the game while it shows one GREEN for the last 2-entries, the GREEN is in a different position. The position of the markers for YES/NO should not be affected by the colors or pattern of colors. In fact I would suspect it needs to be GREEN pips first, then RED, and it doesn't matter the colors or position, the GREEN pips always need to be plotted in the 2x2 field first.

maybe red and green aren't best option (color blindness).

And maybe it is a good idea to use different shapes for the pins like square, star, circle and so on. Maybe different graphic-sets?

maybe different difficulty levels? Like 6 colours, 8 colours, 8 colours with doubles.

With the position of the 'pins', I just shuffle them to make sure it's not really obvious which ones are which.

With the board game, one person picks the pattern and the other does the guessing. For the former, the only strategy (if you can call it that) that they can employ is how to layout the pins in the hopes of (maybe) tricking the other person.

For the colours, I just used the ones used in the board game.

Oh man I loved this game growing up! Nice job!

Really bringing back some memories! Used to love this game as a kid. I agree with phil that the game over screen obscures the board, which I would like to re-examine after seeing the solution. Really nice work overall, though :D

Found a bug: I solved it on the last guess but got game over

Thanks everyone!
I'm going to fix the dialog covering the guesses, and that last attempt bug.

I've added changes and uploaded the new cart.
Thanks again everyone!
