Porting a classic C64 game over to Pico-8. This has been a fun project so far.

Though I barely even have a game, the very basic core elements are there.

Still have to program in all the mini-games, and work on that god-awful layout I have on screen right now.

I think carts don't work on blog posts. I had this same issue earlier.

Thanks! I'm new to this still. Is there any way to put up a game without having it appear in splore? This is far from ready, but I wanted to put up what I have slapped together so far.

Couldn't load it online. You know me, persistent. Loaded it offline and played it. I like !

It's very thoughtful. Very interesting. Gets the brain working. Survival and intelligent use of resources. Definitely gets my star.

I see there is a whole HOST of spam up above. Ugh. Life goes ever on.

After marking all the above as SPAM. Sheesh there was a lot of it.

Thought I would post this cart where it CAN be played Online.

@wardrich if you are still around this is definitely one of my favorite games. Hope you're still here to make updates !

Oh wow, thanks @dw817! I'm still around, but it's been a long time since I've worked on this (or in Pico-8). I have a few friends at work that have been nagging me recently to get back on this project, so we'll see what comes. Maybe in a month or so I'll get back on the bandwagon. :)

@dw817 - I should mention this game isn't my idea. It's a redo of an old C64 game of the same name. You can find more info here: http://gb64.com/game.php?id=3842&d=18&h=0

I'm certain, but how often do we get a chance to play C64 gems ?

I feel honored for you to make this tribute for them, and the game itself is very challenging, playable, and contains great replay ability besides.

Take your time if you like because it's still a great game as it is.

Perhaps change the CATEGORY to CARTRIDGE as that might remove the dither.

Wow, what's with all the spam!?

@dw817 - I'm not gonna lie, my Pico-8 knowledge is out the window since I did this project, but I'm gonna pick this back up probably this week and get back into the swing of it. I need something new and fun to do haha.

Hi @wardrich:

Your game is still one of my all-time favorites. Shows me it's possible to make a turn-based game where you still have the same panic in your mind as a survival/horror RPG. I would definitely like to see more games along this genre.

At some point I want to really sit down and look at the marvelous mathematics and design you have in your game and see if I can apply it to a future game.

To remove blur from your graphics and to take advantage of your 1280x720 Windows screen, you are more than welcome to use my startup, "p8.bat" I think this will solve it.

@start run-pico8.exe -software_blit 0 -gif_len 240 -windowed 1 -width 704 -height 650 -draw_rect 10,5,682,640 -sound 128 -music 128 -pixel_perfect 0 -desktop c:\david\Pico-8\pico-8_win32\!snaps -home c:\david\pico-8\pico-8_win32 -foreground_sleep_ms 0 -background_sleep_ms 1000 -accept_future 1 -gui_theme 1

Change the two directories listed above to your own, of course. Also I renamed "pico8.exe" to "run-pico8.exe" so I would remember to always run the batch first.

And yep, it's been a-while for me too, writing in Pico-8. Boss has me now learning Godot. While I would be very content to stay in Blitz, that only works in Windows.

That and I'm still working on writing code for the RG-350.

I think most of us here are always busy writing some code or other. :)
