HORDE
a survival deckbuilding game
This game was made for the 8-Bits to Infinity "turn based" game jam and is my first completed pico8 game.
The world as you know has changed. The zombie apocalypse has begun. Will you survive?
This is a solo deck building game. The cards you are dealt won't get you very far. Use the survivors to scavenge for weapons, items, and find other survivors in hopes of fending off the impending zombie horde. You have 20 turns to accumulate as much firepower and support as you can.
Play Action cards to gain an advantage, Survivor cards to scavenge better cards, and Weapon cards to attack the zombie horde.
Updated version with new cards, music (toggle on/off in settings menu), and some card animations
pretty cool :)
needs some music. Other than that, I really enjoyed it!
I just didn't understand the dumpster card, what does it do exactly? What's the benefit of trashing a card from hand?
interesting but somehow needs a bit of tweaking on card values/randomness.
Many draws are just hopeless, leading to a certain death.
Is caffeine meant to be a dead card? Action: gain an action and draw basically means it's a dead card that just wasted 4 survivors
@demiskeleton - that's a typo on the card. the card actually draws 2 and gives +1 action. I've uploaded the updated version that has that fix, some music (I'm not a musician), some new cards, and some card animations. thanks for reviving this as it's reminded me of the improvements I wanted to make :)
Great game! It's really hard to make a winning strategy, but my usual plan is to get as many Caffeine and Teamwork cards that I can get my hands on, use Dumpster to trash all lone wolfs and pistols, buy couples, trios and parties, and then work my way up to buying rifles and mortars. It can really end up being based on RNG, but it can still end up being super exiting putting together a winning combo in 20 turns, kinda like Slay the Spire in a way.
@JackJack3136 - thanks! I think I may need to tweak the card pool. I've also wanted to add a way to lose a turn in order to completely refresh the available cards to buy. could help with the RNGness.
