You're a T Rex that eats letters in the order of the alphabet! It's educational! It's also buggy as heck and there's no actual game to speak of yet. It doesn't even check if you eat the letters in the right order. But I think it's already kinda fun to play around with, so here it is. =)
I would give more animation time to the turning sprite. The animation frames you show for only one frame of when the player turns around.
@dw817 That's valid, I did consider that (especially since I'm pretty pleased with it). The turn frame is only shown if the player holds down a direction and the sprite is moving in the opposite direction. So basically, it's only shown while the sprite is braking. If I wanted to show it longer, I would have to show it for a bit after it already changed direction and started accelerating up to speed, or I would need to lower the friction so that it takes longer to turn around. I quite like the snappiness of the turns right now, and I personally don't like games where the controls are too slidey.
Definitely deserves a full game (and I like the sharp turn as well) - forget about letters, let it feats on real meat (or cabbage - as you like)!
@freds72 Thanks for the feedback, I'm actually thinking about reusing most of this for a "reverse Jurassic Park" game, as suggested by MrMandolino on twitter. For now though, I'm just making a cute dino game for my nephew.
Jurassic Park has always been a popular theme in video-games, @iaoth. Here it is for the Gameboy Advance in sideview, just like your cart.
@dw817 I think the idea of "reverse Jurassic Park" (although I can't be sure because that's literally all they said on twitter) is that you play as a dinosaur breaking out of a park enclosure and maybe freeing other dinosaurs and eating some people along the way.
