Went through the Nerdyteachers platformer tutorial and made a little version of my own :D
Hope you enjoy!

What the heck is moving in the spikes ?

This is good. Might add some aerial enemies like hawks and other such creatures. Also maybe have like the player is WAAAY up in the air trying to descend a left-facing mountain and you can only land and stand on little edifices for time to time in your massive descent. Using your gliding skills to go from one safe landing to another.

You WIN that level if you manage to get down without getting hurt.

Thanks! It's a piece of bamboo that I didn't remove XD

Yep. This is one reason I really don't like to rely on other or internal tools if things can get lost or confusing.

Would rather generate my own.

Consider that, thijsengel. If something in a programming language doesn't work as well as you like.

For instance, if you have trouble getting that bamboo sprite out of there - you are always welcome to write your own routines, your own mapper routine.

Me ? I love numbers and math. Pico was limited to 32767. I would've been happy with 2^32 as most languages allow and limit you too.

But now ... with a little bit of elbow grease, Pico-8 does so much more.

So too can you, thijsengel. You can write your own routines in Pico if you're not happy with the defaults on something - write your own, and improve on the model. You can do that.

It's powerful a language, more so than I thought, and more than enough to let you write what you want. :)

Oh no, I think you misunderstand. My map is a mess from playtesting and I didn't bother cleaning it up

P#69125 2019-10-20 21:19

Well, in the future you may still want to write your own routines on things. Leave it at that. Going to give you a star for having the patience to put up with me. :)

And your game is a good start. Always think of ARCADE games when developing games. Those guys got paid and ONLY got paid to suck every single quarter out of every single boy and girl in the state.

THAT'S the level of game you want to ultimately achieve if you can. That or console.

Playing your cart fully now. Reminds me a bit of Mystery Quest.

it's a nice game :)
I've found a bug, after first "level", I've jumped around and found myself trapped under a trampoline, and got stuck there, without possibility to leave.

Nice game, pretty simple. Bit of a sudden end, lol!

P#69206 2019-10-23 17:34

Haha yeah, I haven't finished it yet :)

I've managed to complete a self-imposed challenge and clear it with only using the glider on the first long gap.

P#69240 2019-10-24 20:26

Haha, i love your thinking!

Let us know when it's finished. It's a good start, but then you go through several screens of pretty much nothing, then there's a bottomless fall and you don't reappear and that's it.
