Hey all,
I noticed that my game, Bubble Pond, has been hosted on numerous sites without my consent. Examples:
https://www.playpico.com/games/play/bubble-pond
http://www.arcadeprehacks.com/game/33214/bubble-pond.html
http://www.yibba.com/games/bubblepond.html?m3
Has anyone else had their games lifted by sites like these? Any suggestions of actions I could take?
Thanks!
Trevor
P.S. Here's the game as hosted here for context:
Many people have complained about piracy before. So the good thing is, you aren't alone. The bad thing is I'm not the guy who knows how to get it off, but if you're going to go to an extreme, just hire a lawyer.
I don't really care enough to press charges or anything. I'm honestly slightly appreciative of the exposure. It's just unfortunate that I wasn't reached out to to get permission.
I'd probably prefer to not have my game on those sites at this point though.
Bubble Pond has been removed from PlayPico. I have a script that checks the BBS to make sure games are CC-BY licensed, but it looks like it somehow got broken (probably after the BBS updates several months back). Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
some sites merely leech games from itch.io, so this can help.
that's too late in your case, but there was some interesting discussion going on here.
some of my games have been leeched that way, but they still feature a link to my itch.io page so I see it more as some ""exposure"" (though I still fail to notice any kind of click my way tbh).
as a side note, I wouldn't put playpico in the same bag. scathe is part of this community, is very respectful of everybody's work and I really don't think he's making a living out of it. I see it more as some extension of the BBS and I'm personally happy to see some of my games there :)
Yeah, I feel the same way as you. I created the game more for myself and for people to experience than anything so more eyes is kind of nice.
Still, it feels a little off.
