About
HACK*MATCH is a mini-game in EXAPUNKS, a programming puzzle game by Zachtronics. When I first played the mini-game I loved it, and thought that it would work really well on PICO-8. This is my own version of the mini-game with some slight modifications.
How to play
The goal is to connect 4 or more of the same coloured piece. There are two ways you can do this, by either picking pieces up and putting them down in a different location, or by swapping two pieces, either the two above you, or the one you're holding and the one above you. The game takes some getting used to so it might take a few rounds before you're comfortable with the controls.
Controls
[â—€] [â–¶] : Move EXA left/right
[â–¼] : Fast drop
[X] : Grab/drop piece
[O] : Swap two pieces

Nice game! It almost reminds me of a combination of Quarth and Tetris Attack.
One thing I would like to see added, however, is having the pieces come down faster if you press DOWN.
A little fast, give's me stress, otherwise super fun. Nice!
@JWinslow23 great idea, thanks – I'll add it in the next update.
@ScrubSandwich thanks! I'm away from my computer right now but if you want to change the starting speed it should be defined in the create_grid function.
@JWinslow23 the update has been released- thanks again for the suggestion!
Looks like a vertical zoop. I never really liked that game but only played it when I was young and too slow and rubbish to get to grips. This looks great and will enjoy taking it for a spin!
