Try to land in the pad safely as many times as you can! Land slowly and avoid asteroids-- and don't go past the borders now, cowboy.
Left and right to move, Z to activate engine.
(EDIT: whoa, just saw that dakerfp poster a moon landing game just this week. I did not copy it, in fact, my game has been in the WIP page for over two years. Just a disclaimer. darkerfp's one is really cool too! Check it out: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=60654#p)
Small game based off of a Cartoon Network game back in the day.
Maybe a final version of a project that took too long. My first actual game and a really really fun game to make. After putting it aside for a couple of years, my programming got good enough so I could finish it. So here it is.
If there's any bugs, tell me in the comments!
KNOWN BUGS:
Yeah yeah, the pad is kinda funky sometimes. yolo.
PREVIOUS VERSIONS:
Neat, Yeah the pad sometimes doesn't detect when you pass through it faster than one pixel per frame is my guess, as you skip over the hitbox. Just a wild guess here.
Maybe add some engine/thruster particle effects?
yeah, particles would be perfect but i'm not that good of a designer hahah
Quite a fun and original game , but you should add a "best score" function.
I remember making a CGA Lunar Lander back in GWBASIC. I thought it was the greatest code ever. (Don't we all). :)
I haven't tackled this game idea yet in Pico-8. I thought it might be interesting to have "space chatter." The beeps and blurps you get from NASA and stuff as you make a calculated landing.
If I remember correctly David H Ahl, pioneer, made a game for this. I would definitely want to make it as technical if not more than his so the brain gets a good workout.

Will have to watch the moon landing video again (Neil Armstrong) and see if I can glean some neat ideas from it to add authenticity to the game I would write.
@FlyingSmog ? Would you like some helps with particles ? I can do them fairly well.
@dw817 hello! I see you're digging deep here, huh? :)
Space chatter really sounds like a cool mechanic. Could implement a very dark planet where you can basically only see your spaceship, and have to move based only on sound. There's something in that idea for sure.
About particles, since then I have been working more and more on it and now i can kinda handle the job. It's still a little programmer art-y though hahaha
Well NP then. Was working this morning on writing code to increase, decrease a number up to any size, even past billions. Turns out it's not so easy - but I'm almost done.
I think I wrote a particle program years ago to demonstrate the ADD and DEL function.
