It would be nice that in futures updates, voxatron have a first person view, I know it would be a brand new thing to do, and of course really hard, but with this ability, wecould shoot 360 degree, and see monter closer, and have easy reconnaissace of everything.

Stupid, I am, it would be impossible to make, just remove that useless post lol !

Actually, it wouldn't. It would require many hours of recoding, then twice that of new code, but it could be done. The end result could look like Wolfenstein 3D or DOOM and the such.

And if we get something with the power of Python into the game, or even mod support....

Mother mercy...

Post removal request declined! It's an interesting idea that will surely happen one day, but in the far future..

It would be something of a novelty as the gameplay would be very different. But it would be fun even just to wander around familiar maps with no monsters. There will be raw voxel data & .obj exporting feature not too far away, so maybe it will be possible to try something like this in unity or some other engine that accepts .obj as maps.

How do you imagine this working ? In Voxatron so far, you can only shoot and move in 8 directions. Would you fancy abrupt screen rotation (45 degrees), or change in gameplay (because suddenly you are able to shoot red grunts that you were't able to shoot at). Part of the charm of Voxatron is that quite often an enemy is in range, but he's somewhere between left and left-up, and you can't shoot him.

@zep like a modified version of voxlap?

Yeah, voxlap would do it (for just exploring/visualising maps).

@b0rsuk -- I think there would be no way to avoid fudging the controls and rules of the game so that it makes sense in first person. It would feel a bit like Voxatron, but not really. In the same way that first person pac-man wouldn't really feel like pac-man, even if the rules were similar.

@topic - This is possible, but why would anyone wanna do that? As mentioned the charm of Voxatron is being as minimalistic as it is. Item, mode and sharing related updates, but changing the whole gameplay... then it wouldn't be Voxatron anymore. People would say it's turned into Minecraft, so someone could just make a mod for that instead.

There will always be the core, fixed format (128x128x64 display cuboid, 8-way movement, minimal rules) -- the first person thing would be just for fun, either implemented with a different engine (voxlap/minecraft) or as an extension to Voxatron itself in the distant future.
