Golf Toy

My take on mini golf. Featuring simultaneous 4 player gameplay across 4 course of 8 stages. Definitely my most polished, complete work to date.

Controls

Directional Keys: Move your target.
Z: Hit the ball towards the target.
X: Outline your ball.

The farther the target is from your ball, the faster the ball will move towards it.

1.1 Update

This update adds modifiers to gameplay, on top of some polish and minor additions.
Standard: Target and shoot as normal. Classic style.
Sliders: Adds sliders to shooting. For those who want a challenge.
Roll: Instead of targeting and shooting, use the directional keys to roll the ball. A unique way to play.
Sparkle: Your ball will have a sparkly trail when moving. Flashy.
In this version, the game now stores your high score and course completion between courses.
And some other stuff.

WIP Versions

If you're interested, the whole development can be found HERE
I like to test on my friends and family, so a lot of different versions are inside that thread.

Really nice! I think you could do more with the graphics, try another theme or some graduation of colours or dither patterns for the slopes?

Fun simple mini golf! Would have loved to see a lil' minigame when hitting the ball, that's one of my fav parts of gold games. Very well done!

Thank you for the kind comments!

Matt: I'm honestly pretty bad at graphics, but I think I'll look into your advice and see if I can't improve this that way.

Bridgs: What kind of minigame? I'm thinking of a power/angle slider type thing, which I could definitely implement, but I'd like to know what you specifically are thinking of.

@Remagamer: A power/angle slider type thing would be perfect! But I think the exact minigame is up to you. Just something to simulate that bit of human imperfection that's the difference between planning a shot and executing on it.

It's definitely a trope in golf games--one that you don't need to implement if you don't want that in your game--but I think it adds a fun bit of skill.

I've updated the game!

Matt: I considered using checkerboard patterns for slopes, but it became difficult to tell where your ball was, or see what slopes where. As for theming, I have a lot of ideas in mind, but there's no space left in this cart, so they're for next time. I hope that's what you meant. Thank you!

Bridgs: I'd really like to know what you think of the sliders. I'm not sure they're quite as good as they should be right now, and I'm not sure how to make them better.

hey, can I test the beta versons? I don't have pico-8 editor, so I won't edit it, but i can give feedback. Also, i love the roll mode.

Megamike: I'm not working on this currently, but I tend to upload WIP versions of whatever I'm working on. You can find those by checking the Cartridges list on a profile.
