Galactic Wars is my first entry for the "2017 1GAM" and my first complete game made in Pico8.

It was developed during january 2017 and it's inspired by classics like: Gradius, Galaga or R-type.

Galactic wars is a "10 minutes" hard & frenetic arcade space shooter with different enemies and weapons and a Final Boss battle.

Controls:

Joystick or cursor keys to move
Joy button or Z key to shoot

The game will be updated with more enemies and features in the future, but for now you can play this first version :)

I hope you'll like it, please feel free to contact me and share your thoughs about it!

the game is published to play free in Itch.io, if you like the game and want to support me, you can make a donation and get an original instruction booklet and a poster of the game ready to print in the following link:

great start! I feel like if your ship was just slightly faster it would be a huge improvement, though.

Thank you for your feedback! :)

The ship is a little bit slow when you start the game, but try to go a bit further anyway ;)

Remember that you will increase your speed collecting the energy capsules.

Wow! There's alot of love thats gone into this.

Thank you radcore!

I'm glad to hear that from you.

The truth is: It has been made with lots of love and good memories ;)

I love this game until now. Can't wait for the update. =)

Thank you Nodepond! :)

I'm thinking to add new enemies and features in the next version.

I'll clean up the code with all the "tips" you gave me soon ;)

This is great! I love all the polish like the explosion debris and different attacks. I do find it very difficult but I guess that's how you earn so many quarters :)

Okay, so maybe it's just me or something but when I press the fire button manually (no holding it down), it doesn't fire per press...is that right?

I was under the assumption the power meter is just that, for strength of shot and not speed of shot.

I can understand if holding down the button only keeps shooting at a regular interval, but I'd like to think that if I just button mash, that the shots would keep up with me.

Like I said, maybe that's what you intended but it feels very weird, especially out of the gate when you start.

Ey @morningtoast You really surprised me :(

There's no such thing as speed of shot or strength of shot, I don't understand your comment... But you could ask me for the instructions booklet in one of our previous mails anyway ;)

Remember to watch the bar.

If you hit the shot btn and you do not have enough energy to shoot your weapons, you will not be able to do it!

*The more improved your ship are, the more it will cost each shot.

Hey that is seriously pretty fun, and kind of gratifying like xgalaga or something when you get power ups and can totally hose down huge fleets of baddies with your instant death. Alright my record is 1820 so far this is getting good. Fun!

@timeline I'm happy to know you enjoyed it!

By your score I guess you still have enemies to discover, please let me know if you defeat the Final Boss!

This is really freaking good! :D

Thanks @TonyTheTGR ! :D

it's really good for me to know you had fun with it!

Ey friends, happy Sunday!

I've recently upload a new longplay video of Galactic Wars :)

The score isn't too high, but the evil Galactus X, was defeated ;) and you can see all the different enemies in action.

I hope you enjoy it, thanks!

First rate! Reminds me of Gradius.

Ey @phiber

Sorry, I missed the comment :)

You are absolutely right! As you say it's inspired by classics of the genre as Gradius, R-type or even Galaga ;)

Thanks!

So much arcade vibes! Great game.

I really enjoy this game, kind of my go to for some quick gaming. It does seem though that when a player has scored sufficient points for more than 1 extra life, then is killed - the extra lifes aren't being included.
