Story
In this game you are a pricing manager equipped with an Excel sheet and dice. Your goal is to increase your companies profit by rolling the best markup for each item. Can you survive the harsh corporate landscape by balancing Cost-Plus pricing strategy and chance?
Controls
- Press X to roll a dice and increase the markup.
- Press Arrow down to save the current price and proceed to the next item.
Rules
Your goal is to continuously increase your companies total profit.
- Roll the dice to determine the markup for the current item. The markup is calculated as follows:
- Roll a 1: Increase markup by 0.1
- Roll a 2: Increase markup by 0.2
- and so on…
- Be cautious! If the markup exceeds the allowed maximum, you will lose one heart.
- When you roll exactly the maximum value, you earn a heart, up to a maximum of three hearts.
- If the total profit drops below -$10,000, you will also lose hearts.
- The game ends when you have no hearts remaining.

What a bizarre idea! I like it! It's addictive to roll and see how much money you can make.
I'd love a few more wrinkles. It's possible to play it safe and still consistently gain profit, which hurts the overall goal of the game.
A couple ideas:
-Intermediate goals, after 20 turns you need to be >0, after 30 turns >$1000, etc.
-Critical rows, rows that have a special tweak that mixes up your decisions. E.g. a row that must be profitable or else.
Those aren't great ideas, just thinking about the possible play space.
Again, a very cool idea! I love seeing weird stuff like this made.

Got to 100! Pretty fun and interesting game, however it got boring after a lot of repetitiveness. I definitely agree with stinkingcedar's ideas like exponentially increasing goals to push you to get profit instead of being fine with no reward or loss.

Thank you all for your feedback.
@Waterwool Wow! Never thought that anyone has the strength to play the game this far :-)

Let me start by saying that I literally created my account just to comment on your game. With that out of the way…
This is AMAZING!!
Out of all the carts I've played, this has captured my attention like no other. And contrary to what the other comments suggested, I don't think "more rules" are needed. My recommendations?
This NEEDS some sort of High Score system that is displayed on the title screen. I also think a few different modes (but with your already-established rules) would help.
First could be "Endless Mode". This would be pretty much how it is now, but with that High Score for the dollar total AND maybe for number of days on the job (if that is doable).
The other game mode I thought of is "One Year Mode". In this mode one would play for high score on a fixed number of days. I thought 100 days fits the short-&-sweet Pico8 format, but THEN I thought, "it could be a whole year!" This mode would give replay value because not only can you "die" before getting through all the days, but if you survive all 365 (or just 100 😅) days you can always try to do better on your next run.
Anyway, I've rambled enough. Great game! I'll definitely be looking forward to any tweaks you come up with. Congrats!!
