WELCOME TO DASHBOX
DASHBOX is a frenetic arcade score chase game where you DASH inside a BOX.
Get to the SAFE WALL before the timer runs out.
Collect the ORBS to increase your score.
Avoid crashing into the GATES!
HOW TO PLAY
In DASHBOX you control the ball that sits on the interior edge of the wall.
Use left, right, up, and down to move your ball along the wall.
To DASH, hit the Z key (or circle button)
If your path passes through a GATE, your trajectory will be changed!
The WHITE WALL is the SAFE WALL
You want to make sure you're on the safe wall when the timer at the bottom of the screen runs out
To increase your score, collect the vibrating ORB.
The point value of an orb increases by 1 for every orb collected while the timer is active, so move fast to get quick points!
IF YOU DASH TOO MANY TIMES WITHOUT COLLECTING THE ORB, YOU WILL PERISH.
WAYS TO DIE (AKA THINGS TO AVOID)
- Being on a non-safe wall when the timer expires
- Colliding with a gate in a way that does not redirect your trajectory
- Dashing too many times without collecting an orb
Have fun, and chase the highest score!

This took me like 7 tries to figure out that hanging out on the white wall was what saves me when the timer runs out… which feels antithetical to the frenetic pace you’re going for!
My strategy to continue playing was to not be crazy but to time my white wall “hanging” to the timer… which actually slowed the pace of the game down quite a bit (for me, anyways).
I think this is a lot of fun and a really nice setup and design. I think the visual queues could use amplification (eg: the white wall could be like 4-5px wide; maybe it blinks when the timer is getting low…) would enjoy more dashing incentive — keeps me moving instead of trying to hang back and time the rhythm. But maybe you were going for more rhythm and calm than I expected based on your description??
Super cool. Great music. Solid feel!

@furious thanks for checking out the game!
I think for me the frenetic energy of the game is rooted in trying to collect as many orbs as possible within the timer running out while also making it to the safe wall--the orbs you pick up increase in point value per one you pick up while the timer is going!
I think I'll push an update at some point that includes a combo meter so that information is better telegraphed.
If all you're doing is trying to survive, the game is pretty chill, but the game does get harder over time (less time to get to the safe wall, and more complicated gate layouts start showing up).
Your feedback is valuable! Thank you for giving me things to chew on/find solutions to <3

Good game!
I feel like the timer is a bit too short though (or maybe I'm just bad...)
I think adding some functional items to the field would be nice, for example one that will extend/shorten the timer or stop the player from moving for a short period...?
Also, the field will change even after player's death, which is a bit strange.
P.S. @furious Now I found someone who also didn't read descriptions XD
