Welcome to PegBall!!

This is the second game I've released and I proudly developed it with the help and input of my son, DinoBoy! Thank you all for stopping by and trying out our game!

Controls

Press ⬅️ or ➡️ to aim your reticle.
Hold 🅾️ to aim with precision.
Press ❎ to fire the ball!

Goal

Eliminate all 20 goal pegs before running out of balls.
[8x8]

Collect basic pegs for additional points.
[8x8]

Bonus pegs can double your points. This peg moves after every shot!
[8x8]

Power pegs can activate power-ups (or curses!). This peg moves if ignored too long (and it will return to the playfied after a few shots if hit).

Carefully aim and fire your ball into the peg-afied playfield. Maximize your points and clear each stage of all goal pegs!

Game Modes

Peg Rush: Clear the 20 goal pegs as fast as you can!

Peg-a-thon: Complete as many stages as you can before you run out of balls. Throughout gameplay, and upon stage completion, you'll have opportunities to earn back more balls and keep your run going!

Power-ups and Curses!

In either game mode, you can choose to play with power-ups enabled or disabled. Statistics like best time, high score, etc. are tracked separately for each too! If you play with power-ups enabled, then you will be given the following choices every 3 stages completed:

  1. High Risk/Reward: One randomly selected high-tier power-up and four randomly selected curses.
  2. Medium Risk/Reward: Two randomly selected mid-tier power-ups and three randomly selected curses.
  3. Low Risk/Reward: One randomly selected mid-tier power-up, two randomly selected low-tier power-ups, and two randomly selected curses.
  4. Overdrive: All ten power-ups are available for random selection.
  5. Gauntlet: All ten curses are available for random selection.
  6. Potluck: All power-ups/curses are available for random selection.

Hello, I'm DinoBoy. I had a lot of fun helping my Dad make this game. It has a lot of fun powers and curses. My favorite power-up is Reshoot, and my favorite curse is Peg Mirage. The Mirage summons a bunch of fake pegs, and Reshoot lets you to shoot the ball again each time it lands on a new peg. I hope you have fun playing our game.

It was an amazing experience brainstorming, play-testing, and introducing this type of coding to my son during this process (his previous experience was with Scratch). I also want to thank the r/pico8 subreddit, Krystman at Lazy Devs, the Nerdy Teachers, and others for their inspiration and help. Transparency is important to me, so I would like to acknowledge the assistance ChatGPT provided with bug-squashing and, later in development, token efficiency. Lastly, our game takes massive inspiration from the excellent game, Peggle, made by PopCap Games and EA. If you haven't ever played that game, please do yourself a favor and check it out!

There are plenty of nuances to earning more balls and optimizing your gameplay strategies. I’ll leave those for you to discover and explore. However, if you’ve made it this far…

2) There’s an Easter Egg you can access by pressing a specific button combination on the Start Screen. Good luck finding it!

Patch Notes:

1/12/25
1) Stages 100% cleared were not tracking correctly (fixed now).
2) Even when power-ups were disabled, you were still allowed to pick every 3 stages (didn't ultimately impact gameplay because power pegs were not generating, but still incorrect and fixed now).
3) More features added to the Easter Egg Hidden Menu and if playing with Cheats Active, record keeping is disabled.

Great game, I love to procrastinate and play it, Id like to see a game mode in the future where the screen gradually fills up with pegs faster and faster, when there are too many you loose.


That’s a really interesting idea! My son and I might make a sequel someday, I’ll have to keep this in mind! Maybe have unlimited balls to shoot so it is more about preventing the playfield from filling up? Thanks for playing and for the idea!

Try pressing X and O at the same time, you will bring up a hidden menu!

Found a softlock at the "bighead" mode:


Not recorded to gif though, but when the ball initially stops at that location, it will go back and forth by a bit of distance enough to get over the force-stop threshold.

I increased the "stuck" threshold about as much as I could without breaking the play (for specifically when big head mode is active)... hmmm, I might need to try increasing it again, thank you for the heads up!!!
