As many around here I've found the four, current, issues of the PICO-8 fanzine beyond inspiring, so I designed my first semi-serious project to celebrate inventiveness of everyone involved in the platform.

P.S. If you've just discovered the series maybe don't look at #2 too intently :)

When you do, give all props to johanvinet, a true pixel art wiz.

The premise of a jigsaw puzzle is deceptively simple:

  1. take a fully formed picture

  2. scramble the pieces to make an undistinguishable mess

  3. find it in your heart to restore the set

Now, you would think that the limitations of a single cell in the PICO-8 editor would be too much to support the concept — how much character can you give to a cell 8 pixels wide and tall? —, but the amazing creators behind the console prove otherwise.

Need an example? Here some. And if you have ever lamented the small, pico-sized numbers — "there are only a few squares", "there are just a handful of colors" — this time you'll be right to complain: "these are just too many".

that was very satisfying!
spoiler:

Thank you so much @camp39 for trying the game. It's my first cart on the forum and it's also so satisfying to see everything come together (and work) :)

Neat game @grie! I'm making my way through these.

I encountered an error after finishing puzzle #25. Looks like it has to do with trying to index the next puzzle in the grid, but the next puzzle rolls over to the next page.

Cart seems to work fine again after a restart. I was able to pick up from where I left off.

Thank you for trying out the game @mabbees. I'm sorry the game crashed with #25, and I immediately tried to find a solution. I think I have, and if I was able to update the cart (not too familiar with the submission process) it should not happen again.

Glad the level was saved before the error :)
