And It's Over
On a rather shitty day in August 2024, the world changed forever. Mankind was invaded and completely annihilated by alien invaders from outer space. To make matters worse, Antonette was on the verge of winning for the first time at her regular bingo night. As everyone around her turned into particles, she not only survived, but evolved into something more powerful and angry. So she turned her wrath on the invaders who had killed all her friends and rained on her bingo parade.

And It's Over is a single level bullet hell shmup with a nod to bonus letters from a bygone era. Back in the day, you could master arcade games by collecting the word "bonus" to get a higher score. It also features a bingo game mechanic using the bonus letters to unlock over 16 alternative color schemes.
How to play
- The game uses auto-fire without the need to press a button.
- Destroyed enemies turn into bonus coins.
- Collect nine coins to spawn a bonus letter.
- Hold Z, X, C, or V (A or B button on PICO-8) to slow down.

Gameplay hints
- Your hit box is a single pixel. Dodge accordingly.
- Collecting a bonus letter kills every enemy on screen (except bosses) and clears all bullets.
- Collect five bonus letters in a row and defeat a boss without dying to earn a large bonus.
- Each run contains only one bonus word, unless you manage to get the full word and defeat a boss without dying.
- Beating bosses will give you an extra life (except in Hardcore mode).
- Killed enemies will fire one targeted suicide bullet at the player (plus six non-targeted bullets in Hardcore mode).
- After each round, your collected letters are placed on your bingo card. Get Bingo to earn new color schemes for the game
Additional features
Press Start or Return to access the Pause menu. Here you can toggle hardcore mode and/or unlimited lives.
Creative, fun, and nice patterns! I scored 36600 and spelled out "MEDAL" which was cool. However, I kept thinking I was getting hit when I was collecting a letter due to the flash. Gonna try for a bingo now!
Nifty. Nicely put together and feels like a complete game. I never thought about the hitbox being the negative space, clever. Great for a quick play but one I'll be hitting a lot.
Maybe they're in there and I just haven't gotten there yet...but having unlockable color palette choices would be pretty cool, a la Downwell. Your limited colors lends itself to it. Plus I'm just a sucker for unlocking colors :)
Haha, this is pretty excellent. As terrible as I am at shmups, I still felt like this was not impossible. I only got 11800 and 2 letters but I think I can do better with another go! (I was also playing on a laptop keyboard sans controller).
Very stylish. Though I couldn't get more than 19000 points (I attribute it to me not being good at SHMUPS), I really like the minimalist but impactful art style, and the bingo system is very unique. Nice!
