idea: 4(or 5?) items to choose from at the end of a level, but random items give you 2 choices

a few more waves, (minibosses?)
more ally items,
more cool item gimmicks
maybe more characters?

I've been at the token limit since the game originally came out and I had to take a lot of time lowering the token count to add anything new in. It's getting to a point where it is hard to find places to optimize, so I think I am done with updating this.
If I were to change stuff about the game at this point, it would be core gameplay features, which are probably not in budget with PICO-8's limitations. So my plan is to make an entirely new iteration of the game or a completely different game. Not sure what I'll work on next, but you'll hear from me.

Could you please add a SAVE GAME option between levels ? It might not be anything greater than saving a single BYTE of data to cartdata()

This has me sweating ... bullets! :,) The controls are straightforward and simple, which makes the game feel fair - when I get hit, it's because of me. The upgrades are fun and fresh! I'm excited to unlock the other ships, too. Thank you for sharing!
