P#145737 2024-04-04 23:23

What did you do before this happened?

P#145739 2024-04-04 23:29

@my_name_is_doof I already did

P#145741 2024-04-04 23:39

@evman2k I was trying to figure out how to edit them and stuff and i placed another cart in the apps folder but it didn't work so I deleted it but I accidentally deleted the terminal instead

If you don't mind you could:
backup your data and all your carts.
Go to the picotron folder and delete it, delete picotron app also.
Reinstall again. You should have a fresh version of Picotron this way

@369369369 I will but I think its a bug

P#145744 2024-04-05 00:00

Maybe get a copy of terminal.lua from someone/where and just copy it in.

P#145745 2024-04-05 00:15

@cystedtwister I tried to find one but I could not

did you mount the system directory to the host?

without that, it’s not possible to permanently delete a system app. system is recreated at boot, unless you do unsupported things to make it persistent :]

P#145748 2024-04-05 00:17

@merwok I have not done anything like that

P#145749 2024-04-05 00:18

@369369369 unfortunately that did not work

P#145750 2024-04-05 00:19

I was wondering if someone could just copy the terminal out of there system and paste it in here because that seems to be the only way.

Sometime, I wonder what is the big idea to do a fantasy workstation. I understand Zep's vision, but, if Picotron was more a fantasy console based on same way as Pico-8 (simply terminal and editors) with that apreciated 640x270 32/64 colors specs and renamed Pico-64. Maybe it shouldn't be a nightmare, right?

if you want a complete reinstall of Picotron you need to uninstall it then navigate to the roaming appdata folder (in windows, sorry I'm unfamiliar with other OS) and delete that as well. Be careful as this will remove all your carts. You can back those up before deleting then after reinstall move them back in.

@FallBreak8203 really? What OS are you using?
And how exactly did you manage to deactivate the terminal?

Here's the Terminal.lua code, update me when you're done so I delete it, I don't know if Zep likes it being public, since it's not findable in the Picotron folder by default

deleted

@BGelais That's an easy one to answer. The point of the workstation is the same point as having a console, or even computer games in general, for that matter: f-u-n. What else would the reason be? I for one absolutely love the workstation idea. If you're looking for Picotron without the workstation there are tons of other options out there. Love2D, Solar2D, Tic-80, to name a few. I've used them all. And here I am, bashing away at a system in Alpha and dealing with the bugs and foibles when I could be hacking stuff out in something else. Why? Fun. :)

@369369369 It did not work unfortunately but thanks anyway you can delete it now. I think I might need to do a bug report because I have not edited the system files in any way.

@Zeflyn IT WORKED!:) Thank you and anybody else who helped me with this. Every time I logged back in I saw a helpful and supporting comment. I'm glad I'm part of this community.

@FallBreak8203 Hooray!

I'm glad it worked--I ran into a similar issue in 0.1.0a or b where I accidentally must have deleted the desktop app on my installation or I was somehow overriding it with custom files and the only thing that worked was fully removing all trace of it on my machine.

The joys of alpha ;D

P#145836 2024-04-05 20:23

@Zeflyn the same happened to me but I just had to uninstall and reinstall and it worked. Thank you for the help.
