My First Cartridge
Teaching myself PICO-8, I remade an old Mac screensaver that I used to find mesmerizing. This is by no means a valid physics simulation, but feels just real enough to be fun.
Thanks to freds72 and Felice for the antialiasing and musurca for the fast distance approximation.
This is so cool!
I spent so long staring at it hoping it would become stable.
Really like the antialiasing on the circles
It ended up pretty stable when I was looking at it just now. I played around with these kind of sims so much as a kid :)
I haven't looked at the code - I presume there's a randomness to the initialisation.
Nice.
Thanks, I also have found a few stable orbits. I should add “nudge” and “reset” button actions.
Indeed the first positioning and motion vectors are random. Everything else is simple physics, coefficients chosen via a rigorous process of letting it run for a while and seeing what felt fun to watch.
It became stable for a little while here with 3 bodies. And then it violently exploded like always.
Edit: I got another one here that was stable for at least 4 minutes.
