background work is impressive and ilove reading dialogues, it's no bullshit just straight forward
game play was kinda boring there's no enemy and stage variety
i honestly just hold punch button later game
There's a lot to love here: Wonderful parallax backgrounds. The sea lapping at the shore. The way your character gets larger and smaller as they move up and down the screen. The start and level introductions and overall presentation. These are all great.
Unfortunately the big issue is that the game is just boring. One attack move and I'm not sure when to press block, or even to bother. I am just spamming attack until the enemies die and then I face more of the same.
I am torn by your cartridge since there are aspects of it, that are just SO GOOD. But the core game is unfortunately lacking. Are you planning on revisiting the gameplay? I really hope you do.
This is a case where by the time I got the overall flow of the game working, I was almost out of tokens and had to cut a lot of corners on the combat. This is only my 2nd pico-8 game, so I wasn't thinking about tokens while making it. Since releasing it I've gotten some advice on how to free up some tokens, so I can hopefully flesh out the combat and enemy types closer to the way I had originally planned. Thanks for your feedback so far!
Nice beatm up inspired by Double Dragon.
Hopefully, it could be updated to feature different enemy types which require alternate strategy.
