How To Play
Controls
- Left Arrow and Right Arrow to turn
- Down Arrow to turn 180 degrees
- Up Arrow to move forward
- X to open/close the map and to select moves when in combat
- Z to run when in combat (random chance to successfully run)
Gameplay
You will encounter enemies while you explore the dungeon. Each enemy will have a weakness. Enemies also have a random change to hit or miss you at each turn. The likelihood of encountering an enemy is indicated by the compass. When the compass has a red ring, you will encounter an enemy soon.
You will find a ladder on each level. This level will take you to the next floor. Each floor will increase the enemies difficulty.
You can press X to open the map. Use this to find items and the ladder.
The player is indicated in the map by a yellow point with an arrow in the direction you are facing.
Throughout the dungeon you will find various items. Health items will increase your max health and current health.
MP items will raise your max MP and your current MP. MP is used to cast spells.
Power items will increase the amount of damage you deal to an enemy.
Random items will give you either a random stat buff or a debuff.
Devlog
I like it, it reminds me of back when I used to play swords and serpents for the NES.
Is there any way to regain health, or is it just a "try not to die as long as you can sort of game." Does "inspired by the Shin Megami Tensei" mean that there's different attacks that are ludicrously more effective than others depending on the monster?
I feel like this isn't conveying very well what we need to do to succeed. I feel like I'd enjoy playing it a lot more if I understood the tricks a bit more up front.
@joealarson You can find various pickups for health, mp, and strength. These pickups can be seen on the map. Yes the enemies have different resistances/weaknesses.
@PUNKWEIGHTINTRO Sure. But from what I've seen the health pickups increase your total health, but don't restore health lost and on your way to them you're going to lose more heath than you gain in fights. So far the futhers I've managed to make it is level 4, and only by going straight for the exits and skipping the powerups a few times.
I still think a clearer guide would be much helpful.
The more I play this (I've given it a few tries) the more I'm not impressed by the 3D view. I'd much rather the map be up the whole time. I think this game would be better with a split screen or picture in picture.
@joealarson Thanks for the feedback. I've made some changes to the amount of health you gain from pickups. I have also decreased the amount of health and power enemies gain on each floor
