Synopsis:
The Earth has been overrun. What remains of humanity has retreated into orbital platform Arcadia. Go! Outrider, you are the last line of defense. Godspeed!
Controls:
- Use the arrow keys to activate your maneuvering thrusters.
- X fires the primary weapon (watch out for the recoil!).
- Z fires your auxiliary tail gun.
Tip: Go easy on the thrusters and control the recoil.
Greetings Picofam! This is my first ever attempt at making a Pico-8 game. It was made mainly by following @Krystman's epic Shmup Tutorial, although there were some bonus concepts I was really keen on experimenting with which led to some wild tangents.
Specifically the inclusion of "gravity" and basic Newtonian physics for the movement in an effort to give the entire orbital shootout a more space-y feel.
As for the music, I was saved by the legendary @Gruber and his Pico-8 Tunes Vol.2 that featured a kick ass tune to slot into my cart, because honestly... I can't put two notes together.
And finally, please feel free to give Outrider a try and drop your feedback in the comments.
Over and out!
208500 Nice game! Keep up the good work. When you can get the +1 DMG, the game changes from hard to medium.
That's pretty cool! I like the recoil, it adds an interesting element.
@mcman Thank you! Yes I hoped the +1 DMGs helped balance the scales by increasing damage, adding penetration to the bullets and multiplying the effect of the bomb-spread. :D
@Godmil Most certainly the recoil was the entire purpose of the test. Glad you enjoyed it. I was never a big fan of linear motion in "space shooters" so here was my attempt see how it felt to have every shot throw you off position.
This is also my first time replying on this BBS, I hope I didn't mess up the formatting!
