StarJump
This is Version 1.1 of StarJump, the lightsaber-themed JumpNRun.
What is it about?
You are a lightsaber wielding somebody trying to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible. Use your lightsaber skills, jumps and runs to beat all 3 levels and, if you can, collect all 10 stars per Level.
How to play
Use X to attack and O to Jump. Press X+O together for a higher dash. Note that you can doublejump! Also note that you deflect laser shots whilst you're attacking.
Good to know
You can restart the current level via the pause menu, you'll also find an option to toggle the timer and music.
Why is it so hard?
To be honest levelbuilding just got out of hand. I enjoyed it way too much. But to proof to you that all 10 Stars are achievable in every level I'll show you my times:
The Future?
Things i`d like to get done if i find time:
- nice parallax backgrounds
- better music
- rework pixelart
- rework particles
Update 20.11.23
- You now get to keep your collected stars after you die.
Why do you lose all of your stars when dying? This doesn't seem fair
i agree with @kollumos, got 8 of the 10 stars died and had to go all the way back, especially since you only have 1 heart
Agree, it's a really good game but losing the stars when dying makes the checkpoints a lot less meaningful.
Hi! Thank you very much for your feedback! I do admit, i did embrace the "hardcoreness" a little too much. Maybe, along with the other things i wanted to add, I'll add a mode switcher.
My thought process was this though: Either I'll make all the stars crazy hard to get but you get to keep 'em after death or I'll keep the stars relatively simple but I'll erase the progress once you die.
The former would be a challenging side mission that can ruin your time, the latter made the stars appear like a true extra challenge for those who are already quick.
But what you're feedback also tells me is that you percieved the stars as very desirable, and I'm happy that works. Now i need to work on making them appear a little less desirable or at least less of a "required" thing, maybe a little less prominent in the game over screen.
What would you prefer?
I love the aesthetic, and the controls are really fun once you get the hang of it. Though I do agree that it felt a little steep in difficulty. I think a mode option of casual or easy could make it more enjoyable for some, where it keeps your stars at checkpoints? So in easy mode it's still satisfying to make it to the end and have all your stars, but folks that like hardcode difficulty could have the current mode.
I'd also throw in a vote to keep the stars stay in one spot. I found that really distracting when they switched spots, especially when you're at an area where it happens over and over as you tried to nail a jump.
Hi! I'm glad you liked it,and after playing it again myself I finally decided to change the star system. You're gonna be able to keep your stars because respawning costs so much time anyway.
Maybe the hardcore mode is a good idea. I'll update the game soon-ish.
And what do you mean by stars moving?
The update is out, stars will no longer disappear now. Thank all of you for playtesting!
