Hey, if you want music for your PICO-8 game, just hit me up. I'll make you some. Free of charge, free of obligation. I'd do it for the bleeps and bloops.

To elaborate: I've been shocked to see lots of games for PICO-8 that are otherwise freakin amazing, especially the idea/coding/gameplay and art part, just flat-out not having any music, which is just so sad. So please, if you have a great game and you don't have anyone to make some music for it yet, and don't plan on making music for it yourself, drop me a message. I'll gladly track some tunes together. I'm no Tim Follin yet, but I've been at it for a while now, and it started to come kinda easy.

Here's an example: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2102

If I'd make music for a game it'd probably be less prominent though, just in case that'd be a concern of you. This track is just so powerful cause it was meant to stand on it's own as a cartridge. Well, except for some violently flashing text and pizza.

I'm working on a small input demo to show off my controller designs and concepts, nothing fancy. (finally got some of it done while listening to the song you posted heh)
A simple menu song, maybe a little strange, technical, metallic, robotic even.
Something that isn't too annoying but inspires thought and is easy enough to listen to while doing precise work like soldering wires to repair or make a controller. :3

Thanks ahead of time if you decide to try it.

Also pretty awesome of ya to offer your talents, hope to hear more Pico-8 music from ya soon.

Hi Pizza,

I'm going to do a full version of Lemmtris soon (small changes in gameplay, more levels). Would you like to do the music (and maybe polish those sfx)? It needs a new intro song (because the one I used is just a remake of an existing song) and maybe 2 or 3 songs for the game (only 3 channels! need one for the sfx).
Lemmtris: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2028

I'm also working on a taxi/pizza delivery game... no gameplay yet but I think it will turn out good. There is no sound, so if you want to collaborate on this one too, it'd be awesome. https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2085

Let me know,
mov

Alright, customers! Heh, I'll do my very best.

@shadow
I'd need to have your cartridge, as I'd need to make the music directly inside of it. If you're still actively working on it, we'd need to figure out a rough time-frame in which I could do the music and send it back to you, an evening would already be enough for me! The description of what you're looking for is just what I imagined when you said it's for an input demo of a controller design. I think I'll be able to make something that'll fit what you're looking for quite well!

@movAX
Yes! Lemmtris! This is the game that got me posting this thread, as you could probably tell from my comment there. I'd simply love to. I'll grab that cart and get right on it, I'll look at the other, too! Thank you, I'll keep you posted!

Some early Lemmtris progress: https://youtu.be/cEcm6WUTmSw

Maybe we should figure out a less public way for communication? I don't mind, your call. So, I don't know how well that song fits the intro cinematic yet. It's a little drunkenly playful, where the original song was a little more melancholic. Again, also the reason why I'm posting this, your opinion'd go great length in deciding where to go. That second loop played in the tracker is not supposed to loop where it does, that second half is supposed to be a transition to the actual loop, which doesn't exist yet. But it's enough for an impression, I'd say.

Also, changed the first two sfx slighty:
sfx 01 - octave 2..3..4 instead of 2
sfx 02 - volume 5 instead of 7 at peak

That's it for now, looking forward to your response, but don't stress, I've got time.

Nice progress! We can communicate via skype (filip_sound), gtalk (filip.sound) or I can invite you to movax13h.slack.com page (need your email address) which is great for cooperations.

Ey! I think i've given up doing my own music if you were interested in contributing to lil'Mulana :)

I'd love to, Mozz!

yay! I havent made any changes since my last update so it should be cool to work off of that - there's some garbage in the sound file, but dont worry about writing over anything.

as for what I was thinking - obviously the original la-mulana, but I was thinking something slower and more atmospheric, like l'abbaye des Morts : http://www.locomalito.com/abbaye_des_morts.php

honestly though, anything you feel moved to include would be amazing :D

Okay, odd question here! I'm doing a music synchronized platformer and I was wondering how this would go if I needed specific requirements in the music. i.e. max three channels (so one still works for sfx), and drum beats at specific times, so I can sync the enemies to it.

I'm just looking for a quick answer, since I'm still testing the feasibility of this experimental idea... So, does my micromanaging the music like this sound less fun and more annoying? =)

Mozz: I'll fetch the file from the thread asap and get composing! Feel free to drop me any way of contacting you, otherwise I'll just drop you a version with a couple tracks back into the thread if that's alright.

innomin: That'd be fine! I always leave the third channel empty for sfx anyway and having some of the drum placement predetermined wouldn't be that much of a restriction. Would totally be up for it!

probably the best way of contacting me is through twitter https://twitter.com/modernmodron

Okay Pizza, thanks! Sorry it took so long for me to read this...

The game is coming together really well, but I'm not at the music and sound stage just yet. When it hits the WIP forum section I'll let you know! =)

No problem inno, I'll keep an eye out for your stuff.

Hey, I plan to make Contra demake somewhere in future. Could you make Pico version of tune that plays after pressing start in NES contra on title screen as well as first level's music in Pico?

Oh hey darkhog, check that other thread you asked about contra in. Generally, definitely though.

Feel free to get in touch via Twitter @pizzamakesgames

hey pizzaman! i'm doing a cracktro/demoscene style thing as my first cart as a sort of intro/writeup about p8, but I totally suck at trackers. (always have, even when nobbing about with octamed on the amiga as a kid)

It's going to be typical C64/amiga crack screen style - sine scrolling text, copperbars, swirling sprites and spinning vectors, that sort of thing ;)

so I currently just have a borrowed one as a placeholder, but if you could do me one that'd be awesome! (and of course you'd be credited in the scrolltext!)

I'm totally up for that. Should I just go for it and send you the code to hack it in eventually or do we wanna talk somewhere?

AWESOME! we can talk directly, I'm on the irc channel (logged in 90% of the time even if i'm not *actually" there ;) just say my name (albrugsch on irc) and i'll get a ping. (i'm on UK time though... so that Eastern +5 if you're in the states)

otherwise just make a png cart and i can hack it in from there ;)

Hey pizza, i missed your last message on IRC. (because work...) i didn't want to use the tune in that example cart i sent as it's not mine... and i didn't ask if i could use it (yet) but there are plenty of CC tunes knocking around the bbs, but just thought if you wanted to put something in that's going to be on indieretronews.com you could have first shout ;)

Oh I'm definitely up, me leaving was unrelated D:
