GRiPPY is a hardcore, subversive platformer where you cant walk or jump but you can climb. You play as Grippy, a creature with very, very strong arms, but no legs. You must travel by hurling yourself across the world and latching onto anything you can GRIP, climbing through a mysterious underground complex and overcoming hostile terrain. Find a way out to win!
CONTROLS
- O/X (z/x on keyboard): reach out a hand and grab
- left/right: rotate aim angle
- down (hold): aiming mode; reach without grabbing
- up: hop
You can change your control settings in the pause menu.
I spent a lot of time and effort making this game. The map, sfx, token limit, and spritesheet are packed. If you like it, you can purchase executables on the itch.io page. If you find any bugs, let me know!
Oh, and please, post your finish times! I'm excited to see how fast people can beat it. Once someone beats my time I'll post mine. >:)
Very cool! Difficult to wrap my brain around, but that's by design. Still, it teaches you the mechanics well. Also I love the face, it is so funny. Good stuff.

@SmellyFishstiks I'm honestly not sure how much time there is to save. When I rewatched the run, my initial guess was 30 seconds or so, but it's hard to judge how much better certain sections could be.
new update: added a nicer looking label image, and added a key counter in-game for speedrunning.
couldnt help myself - updated the grab type option in the menu to use the new menuitem features. also FINALLY fixed the bug where the toggle mode face wasn't appearing. toggle users might get a small surprise ...
@SmellyFishstiks After my most recent run, I now think it's likely possible to get a sub 2. Might require some pretty hairy leaps of faith.

Came far too close to choking the ending.
I've cleared five times now, yet still haven't managed to set a time below 10 minutes. But I sure do love trying! There's such satisfaction in stretching about the map (which is fiendish-but-fair), and Grippy's expressive little face is always endearing. Thank you for this cart: absolutely one of my favourites.
So much fun! Controls were intuitive; love the mechanics and the different challenges presented. The facial expression when you slam your fist into some spikes is great. Grippy is 10/10, best arm blob monster! :)
Edit: Forgot to mention how much I love the music!!! An absolute jam!!!
The music is super good! Controls are hard but I love the expression of the character, the smooth movements feel super satisfying.

This is a great game, both in concept and execution. Really fun to play!
Any chance of getting a save feature, at this late date? Game is loads of fun, but it's too much to finish in one quick sitting, and Pico in the browser has a tendency to crash if you leave it open overnight.
