Full version available here!

What a lovely day in Whatever Land! Except for random fires in skyscrapers here and there.
In control of little Ravra, a pubescent giant monster, you must save the love of your life you just saw on TV while taking as few lives as possible along the way. Or must you?

Because I really wanted the game to include both English and Japanese text, and a minimal set of Japanese characters alone takes 1/4 of the sprite sheet and tokens, it was impossible to keep it within a single cartridge. My way around this was to have separate cartridges for the Japanese and English text and a standalone cartridge (uploaded here) including nothing but the main gameplay. So if you can, by all means do download the full version! (the filenames should be raburabu.p8.png, english.p8 and nihongo.p8, all within the same folder) (please forgive me for this dirty little cheat!)
You get the intro, main menu and endings by doing so. :)

Speaking of which, there are four different endings, seven secrets hidden within the main game and a also hidden message somewhere. Can you find them all without cheating?

This is awesome. Congrats!

But it's very difficult even on easy :)

I downloaded the full version, but running raburabu.p8.png just loads glitchy music and jammed controls at the start of the level. Running english.p8 let me see the first cutscene, but didn't load the game afterwards. Is something going wrong? Loads that don't work silently fail, so maybe it's loading a non-existing file?

It's complicated. You must have all the cartridges, with specific names in one folder and then run raburabu.p8.png.

IT'S SWAP TIME!!!

Great job with this game! I found a classic へのへのもへ face on the sun :D

Also helped me test my japanese, the text was fairly easy to read (except most of the intro, which was too fast for me).

Thanks for the kind comments! :)

I guess the trick is to keep jumping most of the time as to step on as few humans as possible. After a couple tries you should know the stage by memory and it should be pretty easy (also on easy mode eating a human will fully replenish your health, so there's also that).

About the loading, assuming you have all the cartridges correctly named inside the same folder, any of them you boot should give you the same results (it takes one frame to realise you've booted the "wrong" cartridge and automatically load the right one for you though). However, it doesn't check thoroughly for consistency in the ram addresses it reads, so chances are it'll be boggled up if you run it in the same pic-8 instance where you ran a different cartridge that also writes to the same base ram addresses before. TL;DR: try rebooting before running the game.
(also, it doesn't specify filename extensions when load()ing, so if you have say, raburabu.p8 and raburabu.p8.png in the same folder, that might be causing it to load the wrong (perharps the standalone) version)

MaikelOrtega: nice! :D that's the easiest to spot secret. I'm happy that the tiny font was readable! It's not very easy to read hiragana only at that speed even for native Japanese speakers, I suppose...

I think I figured out what was going wrong. I put all the files in a folder, then did load raburabu/raburabu, instead of cd raburabu load raburabu. Tried it the other way and it works better, though the initial cutscene got cut short and played the rest when I beat the game and pressed start again.

Haven't tried the full version but dang!

That's nice to hear :)
thank you!

I would be nice to have more levels, and it would not be impossible, but that would make it one extra cartridge for each extra level...

Woah! Only 4 stars? The hell

Fantastic! I love how the menu is part of the game and everything mixes together well. Very polished and fun!

Thanks for the kind comments! :)
