Saving a project with save @url
at https://www.pico-8-edu.com/ does not include the map.
Steps to reproduce
- Open https://www.pico-8-edu.com/
- Type
load
- Select a cartridge with a map, for example
- Type
save @url
- Copy the URL in the browser and open in a new tab. (URL in my case)
- Observe that the map data is missing (code and sprites are not missing)
Expected result
In 6, I expect the map data to be present like in the original cartridge and in step 3.
I got caught out by this as well (expecting the same result), but I think it is by design. From the original post https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=47278 -
> the URL CARTRIDGE. GFX and CODE can be encoded as a URL string, as long as it fits within 2040 characters
So seems intentional that there's no MAP data.
Oh, thanks, I see. I tried to look for why, but didn't see that. I guess it's a way to diversify the free and paid product, which understandable.
I worked around it by encoding it in a long list of numbers, which seems to be in the hacker spirit of pico-8.
That's a nice solution. Surprising how much you can fit into 2k
