Hello! I've been working on a pico-8 version of Tritris in my free time. If you don't know, Tritris is a web game developed by Goel based on Tetris but with a twist : the blocks are made up of triangles. (I recommend learning how to play on the official website.) I added a few features that make the gameplay a bit different from the original. It's kind of like the difference between modern Tetris and the classic NES version.

There are still a few bugs that I haven't been able to pin down, but I've been sitting on it for about a month now, and I think it's pretty playable. Today I finally uploaded it to itch.io. I decided I'd upload it here as well because after all, I've learned so much from the various Tetris remakes others have made here.

I hope you enjoy!

Wow I thought this was a Tetris clone,
but its pretty unique, but it can be really frustrating after you miss your first shot. so idk

Cool! Definitely an interesting spin on Tetris.

thanks for playing!

i just realized i should have added the controls into the original post - especially since it differs slightly from Goel's version.

@wsadasd12333 all is not lost when you have a hole: in tritris, there's a mechanic called "phasing" where you can drop, rotate, or slide into a hole when you're right next to it!

ohhh i get it

Running into a problem, @quewon.

I paused the game but you can see it here. The one triangle I have will fit neatly to the right, but when I attempt it, it jumps above instead of fitting in the area.

I got a score of 1140, IDK I had fun but it felt a bit odd a times with where it'd let me place the tiny triangles and such

@SmellyFishstiks thanks for playing :D phasing might seem strange at first but you get used to it once you understand it, and it makes for a more fair game i think!

@dw817 interesting... maybe i'm not understanding the issue, but i can't seem to recreate it myself. if it's not too much trouble, would you be willing to record it in action?

this is too cool!! im a lover of the original tritris (it is like crack to me my highscore is 559578). I'm not sure how i feel about the stickiness here, maybe its just off because im not used to it. Having combos and so on is forsure a cool idea too! The whole game is just darling, awesome work :D

would also be a helpful touch to add a level selector from start

@loveSteppingOut by the stickiness do you mean the amount of time it takes for a block to get placed? cuz i did struggle a bit with that, and it's definitely not perfect.

i didn't have any plans to update the game, but i do have a couple ideas for what to add, and the level selector does sound like a good idea. hmm... i'm gonna have to think on that.

anyway, really cool that another tritris fan found this game :) thanks for playing!

yea stickiness is the variable for how long it takes a piece to set after not being able to go down further, its common in modern tetris versions to have a high low stickiness as a saving grace. i find in regular tritris stickiness is not a factor like i dont think theres any added time. what i found here was that the stickiness was normal for the lower levels but when i got past level 7 it seemed noticably different from the speed of the blocks, its possible the blocks locking into place doesnt scale with the levels and is just perma stuck to level 1.
also haha no thank you for making the game its so cool :D

Hi, This is really well made, I like it. I have a few suggestions. I would like to be able to change the controls. And the pieces get stuck when you try to rotate them against the wall. In the Tetris I'm used to, it can still rotate, pushing away from the wall if necessary.
