Explore the ocean with a penguin.
The game revolves diving through progressively deeper procedurally-generated trenches for pearls. Battle fish for health and snowball upgrades to better survive the deepest trenches. Can you go deep enough to find the black pearl- or unravel the treasure of the Mariana Trench? (If you’re up for it, resurface after fully exploring Adelie Trench- without taking the black pearl 😉)
My LD48 entry. No background music for now because of the deadline and also I don't know how to make background music. Not super confident about the difficulty progression/balancing and would’ve liked more diverse enemies- might come back to these post-compo. :(

too hard in my opinion - its not fair that the fishes shot range is further than yours and it takes too long to reload a shot ...basically you just have to dash in , fire , dash out and hope !
not really any skill involved at the moment .
also the fish are a lot more accurate than the player so that adds to the difficulty .
looks like it could be a good game though :)
The graphics are great! But I too had great difficulty killing the fish.
@bigjus @stilvoid Thanks for the feedback! Yeah most of my concerns are with the game's balance as well- it can have an awkward startup but on the other end eventually gets too easy if you get enough of the right upgrades. I might push out a post-jam version tweaking/adding things after reorganizing some of the final-hours spaghetti in the code :D
meep , your right in the fact that its hard at the start , possibly gets easier later on seems completely upside down to any other game ive played - ever !
I entered a room with 1 heart and got hit by an jellyfish before the room "loaded", then this happened
@WilliamJ Huh, I fixed that bug right before the compo ended but seems it didn't get uploaded. Should be fixed now! :)
Had a fun time!
Thought it would be endless or become to easy but actually almost lost a few times :p
Would love to see a boss floor
Keep working on this game please, it is super cool
I like this but it is pretty hard, @Meep. Most games start out with the baddies dying after a single hit. From level 2 you can start to ramp it, 2-hits, 3-hits, etc.
There is a method I have found to shooting the fish that might help. Wait until the fish moves and fires, then go after them, then step back cause they're going to move again.
I think most players are damaged by the fish not by their shots but their erratic movements.
but yeah 4-hits for a level 1 attacker is a bit much, especially for those playing the game for the first time.
Nonetheless this is excellent work. As you're diving for pearls, here is a gold star to add to your underwater treasure chest. :)
@dw817: Yeah that's unfortunately an artifact from being a jam game, and overly playtesting the game over the 48 hours. :( On the flipside, once you get more accurate with aiming (and get enough power-ups) it can end up feeling too easy. I tried to fix some balancing in a post-jam version but got side tracked with other projects 😅. Hopefully can revisit this someday.
Now this is what I hear when I think about rolling down in the deep
