(Ooh, this cart clipboard thing is new since I last posted!)
Typing Sim RPG! Very early work in progress, but I've resolved to start posting works in progress to the BBS more because it's fun to share and I should let folks play with the things I post gifs of on twitter.
CONTROLS:
- arrows to move the fingers
- z to type with left finger
- x to type with right finger
GOAL:
Right now all you can do is type. This is the, uh, open-world part of the game.
WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA THOUGH:
I want to turn this into a proper RPG. You'll start with a character creator where you name your fingers, select skin tone, nail polish, finger size, etc. You'll select starting stats that affect things like finger dexterity, shakiness, precision.
And as you complete typing quests, you'll earn XP you'll be able to boost those stats to improve your ability to translate dpad/button input into accurate typing. You'll maybe find magical equipment (probably mostly rings given the context) that'll help out your typing in various ways. And so on.
BUT DOES IT SUPPORT DVORAK:
Yes, and also Colemak. But for now those are only accessible by going in and tweaking the code a little.
This is ... kinna creepy with the floating fingers ... but kinna cool too. Very original game design.
I like how I can alternate between hitting (O) and (X) to get the left or right finger to enter words. Maybe make them thumbs ?
As for making your fingers - adventuresome. You might like this video, just in time for Halloween. :)
I really like the big idea of it! And what you have done so far is also super nice :)
Make the delete button something you can get through in-app-purchase ;)
Looking forward to play your rpg in the future!
I'm a little surprised this isn't Shadout Mapes Teaches Typing.
I hope I can get knuckle tats.
Shadout Mapes from DUNE ? Great movie. And I think tattoos on the knuckles would REALLY hurt ! :)
This is truly amazing, feels so real
I typed this for some reason:
But seriously, I noticed that the keys at the top are easier to hit if I just push the finger to the edge and use it to stabilize some, so perhaps expand the range of movement slightly upwards if you want maximum frustration? :D
Either way, can't wait to see more progress!
The more I look at this, the more I see it should be possible to make a serious 2-fingered typing program, where the "fingers" are about 3-characters apart from each other.
Then you can type effectively with both (O) and (X) as the "fingers" would follow each other across the board. Something to maybe mess around with building in the future. :)
suggestion for finger rpg: make the in-game computer run some sort of TBG, like adventure
I'm sad that it took me this long to see this,
IDK if it's a good idea but I love the idea that while you type in the background it plays spooky sounds and if you get frustrated and hit the keys a lot it gets all worked up and action-y... just what I was thinking, was fun to type out like 2 words before decending into madness
NOO DELETE BUTTOOOONN
I'm doomed to eternal rage... or do I remember a certain table flipping game...hm...
