love the physics of the web!
if you hold top+a direction you can fly in diagonal if you spam z :/
This is a fantastic game, both technically and gameplay-wise! Hats off to you, sir
Only thing it's missing is the bug list in the game itself
And possibly a 2-player mode :)
I haven't had this much fun spinning webs since Spider-Man 2 on GameCube :>
Seriously, the mechanics are great and feel very smooth. It's fun both in concept and implementation. Well done!
My only suggestion is to use the input-agnostic <O> button glyph instead of "Z" when displaying button prompts/instructions.
Thanks for the feedback y'all! I really really appreciate it. I also wanted to respond to some of the comments:
@sax3: Yup this exploit naturally way I modeled the webbing. I could have programmed around it, but any solution had the chance of impacting regular gameplay... so I left it in! It's not game-breaking, just a tactic you might find after playing for a while.
@ilkke: As it stands the game is just 12 tokens and 2 sprites under the max. There's a lot of cool stuff I was hoping to packing (a survival game mode!) but I ended up having to cut it. 2 play would be rad though.
@kittenm4ster: I was torn about this. The <O> and <X> glyphs are the more PICO-8 way of doing things, but I tested the game and a lot of people got hung up on those symbols. Not everyone knows what PICO-8 is and some weren't even able to get past the start screen. So in the interest of reaching a wider audience, I went with the keyboard keys... but I didn't feel great about it.
Thanks again for playing :)
I would be great if the glyphs just changed into <Z> in web exports/no gamepad plugged in and <O> otherwise.
That said, this is a really cool game. Usually spiders are the enemy but you gave this little guy a chance to shine! It would be great if there was a faster "B difficulty" mode.
This reminds me of Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon
Except this might be a cooler mechanic!
The most fun (and terrifying) approach to level design I've seen in any game in a long time. Giant spiders might seem scary, but this game isn't scary. It's beautiful. Even if you're terrible at it, you can still have fun making spider webs. You have to appreciate the detail that goes into the web building physics as well as the climbing. Everything has a weight to it. I thought the demo was one of the best spider themed games I'd ever seen, but this is at least six times better.
Super creative. Lots of content. Challenging difficulty curve throughout the levels. I only wish there were a way to lose a level.
I'm new to PICO-8, have been playing with games, and thinking about starting something myself for a few days... but this is by far the most fun I had with a game! :) The gameplay itself is so much fun and everything else is spot on as well!
Wish the spiders in my house were like this. They just ninja around and sometimes show themselves at night.
Holy bananas, I love everything about this!! Beautiful concept, gorgeous visuals, super elegant introduction of creative new elements in each level. What a gem!
Great level designs; each provides new challenges and has its own unique visuals. I like that you added a level select menu; it's good for practicing levels but also for replaying favorites (mine is the house). It's also very fun to create the webs and the physics of that feel nice. Plus, the spider is just terribly cute. :) It's hard to stop playing!
This game is great, and I love coming back to it to get a new high score. It is really polished! Also, here are my scores:
I found myself involuntarily smiling at each level reveal. So beautifully done.
Super cute! I was expecting it to be way more boring than it was. Very nice rope physics as well.
I am not sure how tokens work, but if you had enough for a endless mode that would be fantastic. I have had many a web designs, but not enough time to make them.
This is one of the most fun games I've seen on here. I need more!
