Aim
Score 10 belief points by keeping your followers happy. They like trees and plants, and eating tasty corn. They don't like swamps, being stuck in one place or things being on fire. You can also win by making your opponent's (Omnicow) followers unhappy.

Story
Once, Henry was just a regular pig. He dreamed of being a magnificent wizard who was popular and cool. Through the sheer force of his own will and the belief of the nearby villagers, who saw promise in him - he became a giant flying head with reality bending powers. Summoning a mountain from the earth, he marvelled at his power.
"I will use my powers for good, and make my followers happy, with lovely forests and magical instant-corn from the fields"
As he said this, the earth shook and a giant cow's head appeared from behind the mountain he had just conjured, spitting fire from its eyes"
"Or maybe I'll just ruin someone else's day"
Powers
Raise power (yellow mana) raise the landscape. Followers cannot walk up steep slopes, and any upward slope will slow them down
Lower power (yellow mana) lower the landscape
Fire power (red mana) Create fireballs from your eyes. Destroys terrain and foliage
Forest power (green mana) Puts out fire and creates new foliage. Cleans out swampy land.
Rain power (blue mana) Puts out fire and cultivates fields that yield follower-pleasing corn. Too much rain makes the land swampy though.
This looks insanely good. I have no clue how you pulled this graphics off. Really stellar job. That said, the gameplay is so confusing I cant really figure out what to do. I dont know who my followers are vs the cows followers. I also dont know why I keep turning from a giant pig head into a little pig and what I am supposed to do while each of those. It lacks intuitiveness. Your powers list was helpful though!
Keep at it, it is super nuts fun and very zany (in a good way).
Hey! Thank you for playing and the feedback. I got similar responses from friends and family I put it in front of about it being confusing.
I have a slightly updated version on my itch.io (https://powersaurus.itch.io/magical-henry-the-wizard-pig) which has a better UI, more descriptive messages and graphics to show how being near your followers powers you up (turning you into a giant head). It might not address all your points though. The followers teams are just indicated with a palette swap - would different graphics for different teams help?
I'm still planning on developing this further, just had worked on it for ages and needed a break :)
Regarding the graphics - thank you :), I did a write up on Medium and demo cart over here - https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=28925 - to explain how the terrain works.
I didn't RTFM before playing, so I didn't understand a damned thing I was doing, and I still played ... if you can call what I was doing playing ... for ten minutes before I got serious and read the ferglin' manual. That's a perversely good sign.
Better with the instructions read though. ;)
I agree, reading the instructions helps. xD
I love how the terrain looks, and I imagine it's not too difficult to pull off. Playing god is fun! Great work all around.
Thanks for all the feedback! When I saw that I went away and did an update that hopefully addresses some of the problems - new cart is above.
New in this version is:
- Improved context-based tutorials
- Multiple characters
- Music
- More SFX
- Nicer UI
- Proper endgame states
Thanks for playing!
Enjoy :)
That plays SOOOOOo much better. The context advice is great, the extra characters are nice. having read all the previous comments and instructions I feel like I got a much better sense for the game. Great job!
Brilliant, and thank you for trying it again! Very very pleased the improvements helped! :)
Easy way for me to win was to immediately spit fire on enemy's terrain after transforming into big head. It's fun burning up enemy's terrain.
Also, that's what enemy gets after throwing fire immediately on my terrain when I am not attacking in the beginning, lol.
I was also confused. It looks cool though. Maybe you could have a couple simple levels with less going on, and very basic objectives... (level 1, grow some trees.) level 2, destroy x ammount of land)
So, played this game again, but this time how to win by making my followers happy which I managed to increase to 10.
At the start, I spitted fire on enemy's terrain, which will distract the enemy to take care his/her own terrain instead of attacking my land. After that, I kept spamming Forest on my terrain. That's it, my belief point got increased easier that way. If enemy came back to attack my land, then fire his/her terrain again.
Interestingly, the win condition effect was different from making my own belief point to 10 to making enemy's belief point to 0.
Hey!
thank you both for playing.
@Gtype - it's a good idea. I had semi-planned something similar where the AI would give you time to do some simple tasks before the full battle breaks out. Maybe for a sequel? I'd need to do some serious refactoring to claw some tokens back.
@NeithR - sounds like some nice tactics :) . Getting the enemy AI to deal with other problems is a good plan as is changing the terrain to trap them!
